This former slate mining village is set on the edge of Eryri / Snowdonia National Park and within the spectacular landscape of the Dyfi Forest, known for its excellent mountain biking trails as well as its stunning scenery. Corris is tucked between the handsome market town of Dolgellau, 11 miles to the north (below the Cader Idris mountain), and Machynlleth, 6 miles to the south, a quirky rural town with an eco-friendly vibe. This is a great place to visit for a stroll around the shops, galleries and cafes. Just 3 miles outside Machynlleth, in an old slate quarry, you’ll find the Centre for Alternative Technology, which runs regular courses, while at the RSPB Ynys-hir Nature Reserve, 12 miles from Corris, you can explore grasslands, reedbed and saltmarsh habitats, and watch birds from hides all year round.
