Here at Wales Cottage Holidays we like to keep visitors informed of some of the wild and wonderful events taking place throughout the country. Always a winner is Llanwrtyd Wells, the tiny town with a huge reputation for the most outlandish activities.
Now the creator of The World Bog Snorkelling Championships and more has been awarded for Outstanding Achievement at the National Tourism Awards in Llandudno. Gordon Green, from Llanwrtyd Wells in Mid Wales, launched the events after the decline of pony-trekking in the area in the 1970s, hosting other activities like last year's World Alternative Games.
But the first event to be put on was the Man v Horse race in 1980, which is now an annual event.
The World Bog Snorkelling Championship sees competitors swim up and down a muddy trench. While events at the World Alternative Games included worm charming, underwater hockey, gravy wrestling, Russian egg roulette and wheel barrow racing.
