Take a look at Anglesey (Ynys Môn), just over the Menai Strait from Caernarfon and Bangor, and renowned for its glorious 125 mile coastline of sandy beaches, quiet coves, fishing villages and rocky headlands. There’s plenty to see and do on the island! Originally a Viking settlement, Beaumaris began its development in 1295 when Edward I commissioned the Castle, which has now been designated a World Heritage site. Visit the C17th Courthouse and Victorian Gaol, built by Hansom in 1829 and featuring the only original tread wheel in Britain.

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, or Llanfair PG, is reached from the north-west Wales mainland via the Britannia Bridge, begun in 1845. The name was invented in the 1860s to develop the village as a tourist centre with the longest name in the UK and Europe. James Pringle Weavers, the Marquess of Anglesey's Column, Plas Newydd Country House and Gardens, Anglesey Sea Zoo and Foel Farm Park.

The small town of Menai Bridge is connected to the mainland by the Menai Suspension Bridge, built in 1826 by Thomas Telford. Llangefni is the county town of Anglesey and is the principal commercial and farming town on the island. Oriel Ynys Môn includes a History Gallery, a unique collection of paintings by Charles F Tunnicliffe, and Oriel Kyffin Williams. On the east coast, Benllech’s sandy beach extends to the vast sands of Red Wharf Bay. Moelfre is a few miles north, where the RNLI Lifeboat Station is open to the public and sandy Traeth Lligwy is nearby.

Holyhead is the largest town on Anglesey, a major ferry port to Ireland and the terminus of the railway from London. Visit Holyhead Maritime Museum, Ucheldre Centre, Roman Caer Gybi, Breakwater Country Park, Penrhos Coastal Park (an AONB), South Stack Lighthouse, South Stack Cliffs RSPB reserve and Ellin’s Tower Visitor Centre. There are two lovely beaches at Rhosneigr and the nearby RSPB Valley Wetlands reserve. The Anglesey racing circuit is on the coast to the south of Rhosneigr and holds car and motorcycle race meetings. At Newborough there’s a Model Village, Nature Reserve, Forest, dune backed beach and enchanting Llanddwyn Island.
