Stay in one of our self-catering cottages and let your children enjoy the great outdoors in Snowdonia, coastal Pembrokeshire or the Brecon Beacons! According to an RSPB survey, large numbers of children in this country are missing out on outdoor fun and the world of nature. In the first study of its kind, only 21% of children aged 8-12 were found to be ‘connected to nature’ in a realistic way, with girls much more likely than boys to be exposed to the great outdoors. It may be that some adults think that nature is dangerous or dirty and this could be holding children back.

The study’s ‘realistic and achievable’ value is based on the average scores of children visiting RSPB sites or who are junior members of the organisation. This covers how great an empathy children have for creatures, having a sense of responsibility for the environment, how much they enjoy nature and feel an oneness with it. Interestingly, urban beats rural with, overall, urban children having a slightly higher connection than those living in rural areas. For the sake of children’s health and wellbeing, the RSPB is looking to government to take up the results of this survey.

Take a look at Wales Holidays cottages in all Areas of Wales and enjoy the great outdoors!
