Heritage Steam Railways in Wales during October including Half Term and Halloween specials

All the Heritage Railways in Wales will be running during the October Half Term week (with spooky Halloween trains on several lines!) and most will be operational at other times during the month.

Welshpool & Llanfair Light RailwayTwo daily trains will run on the Welshpool & Llanfair Railway on Saturday and Sunday in October and the first weekend in November plus 29th to 31st during the October Half Term week. In the Machynlleth area, the Corris Railway will be operating a diesel hauled service to Maespoeth Junction on Saturday 19th, Sunday 20th and Sunday 27th October. Two daily steam trains will run on the Bala Lake Railway on Tuesday 22nd to Thursday 24th October and also from 29th to 31st. For visitors to the Llangollen area, Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends next visit to the Llangollen Railway will be on Saturdays and Sundays 19 & 20 and 26 & 27 October.

In North Wales, from 11 to 13 October, one of the Ffestiniog’s Vintage Weekends takes on the title "1863 and all that". This event will feature a traditional and authentic combination of original stock and locations to take people back 150 years. The Llanberis Lake Railway will be running ghostly trains through the Witches Woods from Sunday 27th until Saturday 2nd November and Halloween trains will also run on the Ffestiniog (29th to 31st) and the Welsh Highland (31st only).

For the Dolgellau and the North Cambrian coast area, there will be steam trains on the Talyllyn Railway throughout October except on Fridays. Join the Railway on 30 & 31 October for a fun spooky evening train ride along the line to the haunted woods at Dolgoch! Four steam trains are in the timetable for all Saturdays and Sundays in October on the Fairbourne Railway and also from 28th to 31st.

Brecon Beacons visitors can ride on the Brecon Mountain Railway with departures on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout October and also on Monday 28th. For the Abergavenny area, Ghost Trains run from the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway’s very scary Sidings on 30 & 31 October. On Saturdays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in October there will be two daily steam trains departing from Aberystwyth on the Vale of Rheidol Railway with Halloween trains on 31 October and 1 & 2 November. Near Carmarthen, the Gwili Railway will be open on many days in October and every day during half term from 26 October to 2 November; Sunday Lunch Trains will run on 6 October.
