Mince Pie Specials - Steam Trains on Heritage Railways between Christmas & New Year
Following on from all the Santa Specials that will be running on most of the steam Heritage Railways in Wales, five of the lines will open between Christmas and New Year. For more details in our Heritage Railways section plus details of nearby cottages, click on any of the following areas.
The Llangollen Railway will have three daily Mince Pie Specials running from Thursday 26th December until Wednesday 1st January with specially decorated carriages and mince pies served on board during the journey. In North Wales, the Ffestiniog Railway will be open from 26 to 31 December with two steam trains each day for the 13½-mile journey from the harbour at Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog and vice-versa. The Welsh Highland Railway will also be open with a daily 10am train steaming out of Caernarfon on the 25 mile scenic route to Porthmadog from 27 December to 31 December.
For visitors to the Dolgellau and the North Cambrian coast area, the Talyllyn Railway will be running Mince Pie Special steam trains from Tywyn on 26 December through to 1 January. A morning and early afternoon train are scheduled for each day with decorated carriages and seasonal refreshments.
The Brecon Mountain Railway will be open after Christmas from 27th to 31st December and also from 2nd to 5th January. Three daily trains will be leaving their station at Pant which is about 3 miles north of Merthyr Tydfil.
