Wales’ best known poet and playwright, Dylan Thomas, was born in Swansea in 1914 and plans have been revealed for a year long festival to mark the centenary.
The event will be called Dylan Thomas 100 and theatre performances, television, radio, film, comedy, music and exhibitions will be held across Wales, as well as there being a range of new internet-based initiatives.
The main focus of the events will of course be Swansea, Laugharne in Carmarthenshire where he wrote his later works, and also around New Quay in West Wales and Cardigan.
Wales Holidays visitors will be able to catch a performance of A Child’s Christmas in Wales and new productions of well-known works such as Under Milk Wood. A major new exhibition will be held at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth and a series of activities centred on the Boathouse in Laugharne.
The Dylan Thomas Festival is an annual event that takes place in Swansea each autumn, but in 2014 there’ll be a year long Swansea Festival of Music and Art based on the poet’s works. Other events will include a world premier by composer Karl Jenkins, a mini-festival of five concerts at Bangor University, and a series of literary public tours in Wales and the US.
A source of inspiration for all and a great showcase to the world of one of the 20th century’s literary giants.
Wales Holidays has a range of cottages and farmhouses to let in all areas of Wales.
