Forget fairy lights and come and marvel at the spectacular display of the night sky that can be most appreciated in the Brecon Beacons and Mid Wales!
With the Brecon Beacons National Park being awarded International Dark Sky Reserve status earlier this year and now the Elan Valley estate being considered for the same accolade, Mid Wales is the perfect location for star gazing. The diverse landscapes to be found within the Brecon Beacons National Park make for some stunning vistas. The majestic countryside has been shaped by human hands for thousands of years and prehistoric sites through to townscapes nestle amid the mountains and valleys. Elan Valley is home to an impressive chain of man-made lakes set in 70 square miles of picturesque rolling countryside. The wonder of the stars can be clearly seen on a fine night from the doorstep of Hen Dy which is the larger part of a C15th longhouse. Many original features are maintained in this characterful cottage for 6, with beams, low doorways and flagstone floors being just a few. Situated on the Elan Valley estate with the Claerwen River close by there is plenty of beautiful scenery to enjoy during the day. And when you have had your fill of the beauty of the universe, curl up and relax in front of the inglenook and comforting open fire.
