Judi Dench and Stephen Fry hit the 2014 Hay Festival
Wales Holidays cottage visitors to Mid Wales and the Brecon Beacons need to plan ahead for the Hay Festival if you want to see favourites such as Dame Judi Dench, Stephen Fry and Jennifer Saunders.
This world-renowned literary and cultural feast takes place in Hay-on-Wye, a glorious location in the Black Mountains on the north-eastern edge of Brecon Beacons National Park. The annual literary event is the 27th to be staged in the border town of Hay, famous for its second-hand bookshops.
In 2014 the Festival will run from 22 May to 1 June with a huge range of events for all ages and tastes every day. Stephen Fry will launch the festival's celebration of 450 years since Shakespeare's birth while Judi Dench will round off the event talking about her work. Other headline guests will include American Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison, writer and broadcaster Joan Bakewell, author Julia Donaldson and Arianna Huffington, founder of the Huffington Post.
The festival has grown exponentially since the late 1980’s and attracts a stunning programme of international writers and thinkers, exciting comedians, politicians, musicians and film makers to inspire, delight and entertain. There’s plenty for children and teenagers, too, and a night-time music club for those who want to stay up late!
