From Bee Keeping to Cliff Diving in Wales
Everyone knows that Wales is great for walking, climbing, fishing, cycling and mountain biking and offers the best locations for outdoor activities of many hues. You might, however, not know about some of the other out-of-the-ordinary events that are going on in wonderful Wales this year.
For the second time, the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series comes to Pembrokeshire on 13 & 14 September. Diving takes place at the stunning location of the Blue Lagoon at Abereiddy, just up the coast from St David’s. International competition is fierce but current champion Gary Hunt will be attempting another win in front of a home UK crowd. Stay in cottages in Pembrokeshire and West Wales to visit the beautiful Blue Lagoon.
Later in the month, another specialised event will be held at the Pavilion in Llangollen and North-east Wales. The 50th Anniversary Conference of BIBBA (the Bee Improvement and Bee Breeders Association) combines with SICAMM (BIBBA’s European partner) and is open to everyone. Hosted by South Clwyd Bee Keepers Association, the main focus will be on bee improvement and the management of native honey bees. Learn about breeding and queen rearing and enjoy a varied social programme over the 3 days, from 26-28 September. Bee enthusiasts wishing to make the most of their visit to the area can stay in a Wales Holidays cottage nearby and enjoy beautiful scenery and a variety of activities and cultural and historic locations.
