Fashion and Nature Combine
Top Welsh fashion designer, Julien Macdonald, has created a stylish home for birds! Yes, that sounds a little odd, but the RSPB recently asked Julien and other celebrity designers like Vivienne Westwood and John Rocha to make their mark on a plain white nestbox in celebration of London Fashion Week coinciding with the RSPB’s National Nestbox Week earlier in the month. The standard wood design has been rejuvenated in various ways with florals, bold prints, leather and even chains. So there is now a great selection of stylish homes for our feathered friends!
Julian Macdonald is originally from Merthyr Tydfil near Cardiff and is one of Britain’s leading fashion designers. He is a strong believer in protecting wildlife and the environment and was keen to take part in this venture. There’s a keen interest in the fashion industry these days to think green. Having been displayed at Somerset House throughout London Fashion Week and London Fashion Weekend (20-23 February), the bespoke nestboxes will sold in an eBay auction as a fund-raiser for the RSPB. All monies raised will go towards the RSPB’s conservation work and be spent on projects like restoring wild places, research into species declines and community engagement.
