The historic slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog in central Snowdonia is surrounded by the glorious landscapes and mountains of the National Park.

After the decline of the slate industry in the area, the town now focuses on tourism and welcoming people to this wonderful North Wales location. The town itself boasts traditional pubs, a range of cafes and independent shops and of course striking views. Visitors are encouraged to explore the streets and practise their Welsh with established poetry walks.

The train station, as well as being a mainline stop, hosts the Ffestiniog Railway. This heritage narrow gauge steam railway runs the 13 ½ miles between Blaenau and the harbour town of Porthmadog. The route reaches 700ft above sea level and takes in stunning landscapes including waterfalls and magnificent forests. Outdoor activity enthusiasts couldn’t be in a better location.

There are miles of walks and mountain biking trails in the local area for everyone from beginners to professionals and bikes can be borrowed from the biking centre. World renowned Coed-y-Brenin is also just a short drive away. Llechwedd Slate Caverns offer tours deep down in the old mines and local guides give you an idea of what life would be like for the Victorians working here.

There are also craft workshops where kids can join in and a great gift shop and café. Sandy beaches for watersports, or just relaxing, are only 10 miles away and the famous coastal italinate village of Portmeirion is always worth a visit.

173 Congl Y Wal is a beautifully appointed 4* stone cottage situated at Manod, just south of Blaenau Ffestiniog. To the rear of this terraced property there is parking for 1 car and an enclosed garden with views of the lovely Manod Range. Within walking distance of all the towns facilities this lovely cottage for three offers a goodsized lounge featuring a woodburner in a stone fireplace, a fitted kitchen with dining area, modern bath/shower room and 2 bedrooms. No longer available :(

2015 Update: Wales Cottage Holidays is pleased to present 2 Waterloo Cottages, in the heart of Blaenau Ffestiniog. This cosy stone cottage accommodates up to 5 people and the terraced garden overlooks a tumbling stream.
