This is a family-friendly home where relaxation and rest are the orders of the day – that is, unless you fancy a rewarding hike up one of the Brecon Beacons’ top peaks, the Sugar Loaf (7 miles). Cycling and mountain biking are also on tap nearby – along with water sports like sailing and windsurfing on Llangorse Lake (10.5 miles). And once you’re tired from all that physical exertion, you’ll have this tranquil Crickhowell haven to return to, located in a quiet, convenient spot down a private lane 300 metres from the town centre. You’ll have everything you need close by, with a pub and shop within 150 metres.

A stylish interior awaits at this single-storey home, which is decorated in neutral tones with tasteful artwork on the walls and cheerful splashes of colour. The modern, well-equipped kitchen has a central island with bar stools – fab for quick snacks and coffees – while the adjoining dining area comfortably seats six and overlooks the garden. After dinner, relax in the lovely lounge, which has double-aspect windows, comfy sofas, a TV/DVD and plenty of books and games to keep you entertained. If the weather’s good, take food and drinks out to the mature garden, perhaps even sizzling up a BBQ and dining in the fresh air – your personal green retreat right in the centre of town.

When it’s time for exploration, the pretty River Usk runs through the town (0.5 miles) – during your stay be sure to check out the impressive Grade-I-listed bridge that leads over the water. The majestic Black Mountain range, including the Waun Fach summit (13 miles), is 9 miles away, offering unmissable hiking and mountain biking opportunities. Literary buffs will enjoy day trips to Hay-on-Wye, known for its celebrated bookshops and annual festival (19.5 miles).

Excellent stay at Savona, as ever, with the surprise addition of a new en suite. The kitchen is incredibly well-equipped with everything you could possibly need and the house is so comfortable and spotlessly clean throughout. This has been a fantastic place to stay. The facilities were excellent, the location perfectly situated within a few metres of town centre, beautiful local walks for most standards, and a lovely view from the terrace. Highly recommended and would love to return.

THE COTTAGE HAD EVERYTHING WE NEEDED AND FANTASTIC VIBE THAT WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED. THE SPACIOUS AND BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED KITCHEN BECAME THE HEART OF OUR EVENINGS TOGETHER. ONE STAND OUT FEATURE WAS THE GARDEN WHERE WE COULD SPEND ON THE COMFY COUCH AFTER OUR HIKES AND BIKE RIDES, EVEN IN A COLD WEATHER. OVERALL, WE WERE DELIGHTED WITH OUR EXPERIENCERead more. WE USED THE COTTAGE AS A BASE FOR EXPLORING THE BREATHTAKING TRAILS OF BRECON BEACONS AND TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE NEARBY BIKE PARK WALES. Hide

The bungalow and grounds were gorgeous and well kept. I could not find any fault with anything in the bungalow. The kitchen was huge so we mainly stayed in there around the dining room table talking and playing card and quiz games. Beds and pillows were really comfy.
