Get away from it all in this idyllic retreat set on a hilltop overlooking the Monmouthshire countryside, 8 miles from Chepstow. You’ll find fabulous walks through the extensive grounds, or you can explore the quiet, country lanes and local footpaths. Further afield, the Wye Valley National Landscape is just 2.5 miles away. At the end of the day, chill out in the hammock in the orchard or snuggle up next to the roaring wood burner.

The characterful stone cottage enjoys an elevated position on the site of an ancient castle and is one of two holiday homes within the owner’s grounds. Inside, you’ll find an exquisite blend of rustic original features and contemporary decor and design. From the entrance hall, move through to the spacious lounge/diner, featuring a striking beamed ceiling, wooden floors, and French doors opening onto the garden. Relax here after a day of adventure to watch the Smart TV, read a book in the glow of the cosy wood burner, or share mealtimes as a group. To the rear of the cottage is a stylish kitchen with a cute breakfast bar overlooking the garden. Completing this floor is a utility room and a shower room. The two elegantly styled bedrooms are upstairs, along with the family bathroom. Outside, soak up the tranquillity in the large garden, dining on the sunny patio, catching some rays on the sun loungers, or relaxing in the hammock in the orchard. At night, head to the elevated seating area to watch the sun set over the mountains, before toasting marshmallows around the fire pit.

The bustling town of Chepstow has a great selection of independent shops and eateries, along with a fascinating museum, historic castle, and beautiful Georgian and Victorian architecture. Chepstow Racecourse offers a fun day out, with a busy calendar of events throughout the year. For keen walkers, the Offa’s Dyke Path and Wye Valley Walk are both within 10 miles of the cottage and for history enthusiasts, a visit to the romantic ruins of Tintern Abbey (9 miles) is a must.
