Ivy House is one of a collection of high quality converted barns (Ivy House Barns) in the Snowdonia National Park, on the owner’s organic farm, which can all be booked together, near the village of Dyffryn Ardudwy, between Harlech and Barmouth and about 5 miles from both. The location is stunning with views across fields to the dunes of the vast sandy beach of Morfa Dyffryn and beyond to the Llyn Peninsula. The properties all benefit from a shared games room and large outdoor children’s play area with picnic tables and a shared utility room. Secure bike storage is available and there is plenty of parking for guests.
‘stroll down to the sandy beach which stretches for miles in both directions, there is a small section which is which is designated Wales’s only naturist beach or walk all the way to Harlech and catch the train back’ from Jacky, our local property manager.
The Cottage: is on two levels, the open plan living area is on the first floor to make the most of the views and stunning high beamed ceiling. Plenty of private parking. Central heating.
Living Room: is a lovely open space with a comfortable seating area with large ornate fireplace with electric fire and a dining area with table and chairs for four. Practical wooden flooring with a rug over.
Kitchen Area: is well-equipped with a gas cooker, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and microwave. This is a good space to cook whilst still being sociable in the open plan space.
There are two bedrooms.
Bedroom 1: a Zip and Link bed allows this room to be set up either as a twin room or with a super king-sized bed. This room is carpeted and nicely furnished with storage and co coordinating soft furnishings.
Bedroom 2: the second bedroom is a compact double room, carpeted and well furnished.
Bathrooms: the ground floor family bathroom has a bath with shower over, WC and basin.
Dyffryn Ardudwy has a pub, shop, café, and railway station on the scenic Cambrian Line, all within walking distance of Ivy House. Nearby Barmouth is a traditional seaside resort with ice cream shops, lots of cafes and restaurants, a great beach and scenic walks and cycling down the Mawddach Estuary. Harlech is famous for the superb castle perched high above the coastline. The Rhinog mountains behind the farm are good for walking, away from the crowds. Day trips can be had to some of the main tourist attractions of Snowdonia such as Portmeirion Italianate village, Zip World zip wires and Bounce Below underground trampolines, Llanberis for paths and train up Snowdon and Caernarfon for the castle and Welsh Highland Railway.

7 things to do from on the Cambrian coastline, Dyffryn Ardudwy, Harlech and Barmouth
1 – Summer or winter the vast sandy beaches along this section of the coastline are always stunning. The view from the road above can simply take your breath away as you look down across the sands to the distant mountains of Snowdonia beyond.
2- Take a scenic journey on the Cambrian Coast main line railway, lovely in either direction, or walk sections of the coastline and get the train back. There’s a station at Dyffryn Ardudwy, Harlech and Barmouth
3- Cycle a section of Lon Las Cymru (Route 8), a long-distance cycle way stretching from Holyhead the length of Wales to Cardiff. Beware of the section in the hills behind Harlech though, its on very seep lanes!
4- A visit to Harlech and its castle is a must. The castle is looked after by CADW and there are events on throughout the year. The village itself has some lovely cafes, my favourites are Llew Glas and Harlech Castle café, both serving delicious homemade food.
5- The Rhinog mountains behind the coast are known as one of the last remaining wilderness areas in Britain. One of the more popular walks is up the ‘Roman Steps’ from Cwm Bychan. Another is a visit to the Nantcol river and waterfalls, great for swimming if the weather is warm.
6- Barmouth is a thriving seaside resort with a vintage seaside atmosphere of candyfloss, ice creams and donkey rides. The beach is great, there’s a small fun fair during the summer, and the town itself has plenty of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Boat trips and canoe and SUP hire can also be arranged here.
7- Within an hour drive you can visit many of the most popular attractions of north Wales; including Portmeirion Italianate village, the West Highland and Ffestiniog steam Railway, Zip World zip wires and Bounce Below underground trampolines at Blaenau Ffestiniog and the mountains of Snowdonia for walks or the train up Snowdon itself.
An excellent venue and location to explore the North West Wales coast and Snowdonia National Park - the standard of the property was excellent and the hosts very friendly and accommodating, and the annex; with washing & drying facilities, pool and table-tennis, put the icing on the cake.
