Llandrindod Wells Cottages
Known locally simply as "Llandod", the county town of Powys has a population of 5,000; developed as a spa town in the C19th with the construction of new streets, hotels, shops and houses, tourism is still a very important element of the area.
The Art Deco style former garage which was called the Automobile Palace (its facade still boasts of also selling aircraft) now houses the National Cycle Collection which includes some of the bicycles originally displayed in the garage.
Llandrindod has a station on the delightful scenic Heart of Wales railway line and the station features a restored signal box. The town has international standard outdoor bowling greens which host national and international events and a newer indoor bowling centre.
Overlooking the town is an 18-hole golf course which was established in 1905 and designed by six times open champion Harry Vardon; the Club welcomes visiting golfers.
