Description

The Stone House is a delightful character cottage dating back to 1780, with the owner's property - the former milking shed and dairy - attached. Set in a peaceful, rural location at the end of a No Through Road, with no passing traffic and footpaths from the door, this is an excellent location for enjoying the beautiful countryside of Mid Wales and the Marches. The cottage is 1.75 miles above the village of Churchstoke, and 6 miles east of the historic market town of Montgomery. Welshpool is 11.5 miles and Newtown 13 miles away.

Sitting Room: with beamed ceiling and wood burning stove, two leather sofas, FreeSat TV and DVD player, mini hifi system and WiFi.

Dining Room: with circular dining table and four chairs, beamed ceiling and impressive stone inglenook fireplace (decorative only, not functional)

Kitchen: a lovely kitchen, neatly fitted and well-equipped, with electric double oven, ceramic hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge freezer; the owner can provide access by arrangement to the washing machine in her utility room, via an interconnecting door

First Floor:

Bedroom 1: with king size bed, built-in wardrobe, exposed stone chimney breast and beamed ceiling, with some limited headroom to the sides of the room

Bedroom 2: with twin beds, beamed ceiling, sloping to one side of the room

Shower Room: with shower cubicle, WC and basin

Outside: guests at the cottage have their own private entrance at the side of the property, with access also into the enclosed rear garden, where there is garden furniture and a barbecue. Please Note: there is a small stream and water feature running to one side of the garden; this is un-fenced and uncovered; children to be supervised. The gardens are enclosed by hedging and stock-proof fencing, but dogs will need to be supervised as there are often sheep and wildlife in the surrounding fields.

Parking: to the front of the property is a parking area shared with the owners

There are wonderful views over the surrounding countryside from the cottage. A lovely walk from the door takes you to the nearby Nature Reserve and footpaths up Corndon and Roundton hills. Churchstoke, less than 2 miles away, is thriving village with excellent facilities including two pubs serving meals, a Chinese takeaway, large supermarket with launderette, cafe, Post Office, garden centre and Country Park. Montgomery, six miles away, is a picturesque former county town with medieval and Georgian architecture, castle ruins with panoramic views, two small local museums, cafés, excellent Fish & Chip shop and Monty's Brewery Visitor Centre. Also nearby are Kerryvale Vineyard and Dairy Dreams Ice Cream - lots of local produce for tasting! The National Trust's Powis Castle is on the way to Welshpool, where you will also find the Powysland Museum, The Old Station (Edinburgh Woollen Mill, gifts and café) and the Welshpool-Llanfair Caereinion Light Railway where you can take a lovely, scenic steam train ride along the Banwy Valley.

Reviews

Absolutely everything about the place was excellent, even how Rachel relaid the fire every day. The welcome pack of food was just perfect. Would definitely stay again. Many thanks.

Mrs Melanie V,

Very clean and well maintained little cottage. Would highly recommend

R S,

This was one of the best properties we have stayed in - it has everything you could possibly need. The owner greeted us and showed us around. They also suggested places to visit. The welcome goodies were amazing. A truly relaxing holiday - thanks

Mrs Debbie D,

Perfect cottage in beautiful peaceful situation. Beautifully presented scrupulously clean. Amazing welcome food pack and attentive but unobtrusive owners who go more than the extra mile. Nice dog proof garden.

Ms Jenny C,

A beautiful cottage with exceptionally friendly and helpful owners who went out of their way to make us welcome and provided lots of extras.

Mr David W,

We love your cottage, it's a very nice place to stay for a holiday. We have some great views from the cottage (and pheasants) and we hope to see you again soon!

Mrs Penny W,

What an absolutely wonderful place to relax and unwind! And what lovely people Rachel and Adrian are. The most welcoming and kind people you could meet! So helpful! Even looked after Otty when we went out to watch Liverpool get beat!

The Hughes Family,

A wonderful warm welcome to this wonderful and warm cottage. You could not ask for more in a holiday home. The cottage is exceptionally clean and so well equipped. The scrumptious lemon drizzle cake, orange & almond cake and 'wow' those scotch eggs - much needed after being out all day. The owners are the perfect hosts allowing you privacy but there when you need them. We hope to return soon as part of our house hunting! Thanks for everything - you really are a lovely couple

Ian & J,

Beautiful cottage, with everything we need - lovely personal touches added throughout. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will definitely recommend to all! You'll see us again soon!

Ms Katrina L,

We stayed the weekend for Andy's 39th birthday and the owner made us feel really welcome from the start. Special little touches such as a birthday banner and cake. Nothing was too much trouble. Cottage is so lovely and a home away from home, made even more welcoming by the breakfast necessities left for us, and bathroom essentials. Thank you so much for a relaxing stay.

Mrs Kelly C,

Fabulous place. So comfortable, clean, well equipped. Breakfast provisions and a cake were lovely added extras - especially when the snow kept us here another night! The owners are gems, lovely welcoming hosts.

James & J,

The four of us have been renting cottages for more than 20 years. This has been by far the best we have had mainly due to the attention to detail by the owners. Right from the initial welcome, you have both made it an absolute pleasure to be here. Thank you so much, look forward to returning.

Mrs J B,

A wonderful place to visit, great host and an unforgettable time. Thank you for everything.

Dr Enrique M,
