Description

The Stone House is a delightful character cottage dating back to 1780, with the owner's property - the former milking shed and dairy - attached. Set in a peaceful, rural location at the end of a No Through Road, with no passing traffic and footpaths from the door, this is an excellent location for enjoying the beautiful countryside of Mid Wales and the Marches. The cottage is 1.75 miles above the village of Churchstoke, and 6 miles east of the historic market town of Montgomery. Welshpool is 11.5 miles and Newtown 13 miles away.

Sitting Room: with beamed ceiling and wood burning stove, two leather sofas, FreeSat TV and DVD player, mini hifi system and WiFi.

Dining Room: with circular dining table and four chairs, beamed ceiling and impressive stone inglenook fireplace (decorative only, not functional)

Kitchen: a lovely kitchen, neatly fitted and well-equipped, with electric double oven, ceramic hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge freezer; the owner can provide access by arrangement to the washing machine in her utility room, via an interconnecting door

First Floor:

Bedroom 1: with king size bed, built-in wardrobe, exposed stone chimney breast and beamed ceiling, with some limited headroom to the sides of the room

Bedroom 2: with twin beds, beamed ceiling, sloping to one side of the room

Shower Room: with shower cubicle, WC and basin

Outside: guests at the cottage have their own private entrance at the side of the property, with access also into the enclosed rear garden, where there is garden furniture and a barbecue. Please Note: there is a small stream and water feature running to one side of the garden; this is un-fenced and uncovered; children to be supervised. The gardens are enclosed by hedging and stock-proof fencing.

Parking: to the front of the property is a parking area shared with the owners

There are wonderful views over the surrounding countryside from the cottage. A lovely walk from the door takes you to the nearby Nature Reserve and footpaths up Corndon and Roundton hills. Churchstoke, less than 2 miles away, is thriving village with excellent facilities including two pubs serving meals, a Chinese takeaway, large supermarket with launderette, cafe, Post Office, garden centre and Country Park. Montgomery, six miles away, is a picturesque former county town with medieval and Georgian architecture, castle ruins with panoramic views, two small local museums, cafés, excellent Fish & Chip shop and Monty's Brewery Visitor Centre. Also nearby are Kerryvale Vineyard and Dairy Dreams Ice Cream - lots of local produce for tasting! The National Trust's Powis Castle is on the way to Welshpool, where you will also find the Powysland Museum, The Old Station (Edinburgh Woollen Mill, gifts and café) and the Welshpool-Llanfair Caereinion Light Railway where you can take a lovely, scenic steam train ride along the Banwy Valley.

We spent a lovely few days at The Stone House, Churchstoke, Powys. Accommodation was lovely just what we had hoped for. Rachael and Adrian were very welcoming hosts. We had a relaxing stay and would love to return one day.
