Ride the steam train from Llanfair Caereinion to Welshpool or take the short drive to the stunning lake Vyrnwy, where you can try your hand at watersports and cycling or enjoy a leisurely walk and good lunch. Powis Castle, which started life as a medieval fortress, is a must, especially for its beautiful gardens and collection of paintings, sculpture, furniture and tapestries.
Portmeirion and the Mountains of Snowdonia offer great days out whilst pony treking and quad trekking are available locally. Other popular attractions include Llanrhaeadr Waterfall (the tallest in the UK), the Centre for Alternative Technology and King Arthur's Labyrinth.
Among the recommended restaurants within 5 miles of the cottage, you have Kings Head in Guilsfield (3 miles), Royal Oak and Cornstore in Welshpool (4 miles) and The Green Dragon in Buttington (5 miles).
