Description

Cefn Mawr is a stunning new 'upside down' conversion of a former barn and hayloft on the owners' land in the beautiful Ceiriog Valley, 4 miles from Llangollen and 5 miles from Chirk. The barn has its own private, enclosed patio with garden furniture and barbecue, and shared access to 18 acres of woodland and hillside. The property sits at right angles to the neighbouring Cefn Bach (FL012) and the owners live in the neighbouring farmhouse. Guests also have shared use of a covered games area with table tennis, table football and magnetic darts, and a fire pit in an adjacent paddock for evening picnics.

This spacious, light and airy property has a contemporary finish, whilst retaining some lovely original features. There are three bedrooms on the ground floor, a double with en suite shower room, a second double and a twin room. A family shower room is also situated on the ground floor. Upstairs, the barn is one large, open-plan living area, taking advantage of the wonderful views down the Ceiriog Valley. The kitchen area has an electric oven and induction hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There is an extending dining table and six chairs, with two additional chairs available if required. The living room has a woodburning stove, radio, Freeview TV, DVD/CD player and WiFi is available. There are three sofas, to seat up to 8 people, one of which is a daybed which converts to a double bed for occasional/alternative sleeping arrangements. This is an Eco-friendly property, with heating and hot water from an air-source heat pump, PV and solar panels. Fresh free range eggs are available from the owners' chickens and guests have the option of buying fresh organic vegetables as part of the village's organic community garden scheme. The range is a seasonal variation of vegetables and salad, priced £15.00 per box for 2 people. Delivery can be organised or guests are welcome to visit the garden to collect it .

Glyn Ceiriog is a picturesque little village at the head of the Ceiriog Valley, ideal for all grades of walking, from a gentle stroll along the river to more energetic walks among the wooded hills. The village has a shop and pub, and the historic towns of Llangollen, with its steam railway (including Thomas the Tank Engine!) and canal boat trips, and Chirk, with Chirk Castle (NT) and its canal aqueduct are just 4-5 miles away. A short drive also to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a World Heritage Site. Golf, fishing, tennis, horse riding and swimming can all be found within 10 miles and the nearby forests and lakes provide excellent mountain biking and walking trails. Bala, with its lake, watersports and steam railway, on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park is about an hour's drive away.

Cefn Mawr can be booked with the adjoining property to sleep up to 10. Please see Cefn Isa Cottages for full details. Please note that the property is on the site of an old hill farm. We do sometimes get snow and ice in the winter and in extreme conditions this can mean leaving the car in the village and an adventurous walk up the hill (about 15 mins) to get to the property.

Sofabed available @ £15 per night for additional/alternative sleeping arrangements.

WiFi available at the property but please note that this is 'rural broadband' and is it at times slow or intermittent.
