The town, with a population of 9,600, grew up around the now ruined Mold Castle, built around 1140, and the site of frequent battles between English and Welsh forces.
Theatr Clwyd, a mile out of Mold, is the home of a highly acclaimed producing company; the theatre also hosts a variety of touring drama, dance, music and a community Festival in the summer and there are around 900 public performances a year.
The building incorporates two theatres, a studio, a multi-function room and a cinema together with a bookshop, a restaurant and three art galleries. Loggerheads Country Park is situated 2 miles south of Mold and covers 80 acres of the Alyn Valley.
The dominant feature of the Park is an imposing limestone cliff which overlooks a 4 mile walk through mixed woodland; the Park includes an information centre, restaurant and visitor facilities.
