Description

Ty Gwair is a detached, recently converted barn, with a Hot Tub in a fabulous position with great views of the stunning mountains of Snowdonia and nearby Zip World Velocity zip wire. This is a good location for those  wanting to explore the mountains or coastline of north Wales, right on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park and just 8 miles from Anglesey. The local village of Bethesda is one mile away for shops, cafes and pubs, 9 miles to Llanberis for Snowdon, 6 miles to the university city of Bangor, and 17 miles to Conwy.

‘a visit to the National Trusts’ Ogwen Cottage is a must. Located in stunning spot between two mountain ranges alongside Llyn Ogwen, the scenery is magnificent! Take a walk up to Wales’ first National Nature Reserve at Cwm Idwal, a relatively easy hike, and enjoy the surroundings’ from Jacky, our property manager

The Cottage: has lovely owners who live just up the road and are on hand for a wealth of local information. It boasts a hot tub with fabulous mountain views and the property benefits from a ground floor double bedroom with shower cubicle, and adjacent cloakroom so ideal for less able family members. Heating throughout is by underfloor heating using a ground source heat pump and additional solar panels.

The Living Dining Room: this open plan room has leather style sofas, a flat screen TV with a basic Sky package/DVD and WiFi, dining table and chairs. The beautiful Welsh slate floor tiles were originally intended for Cardiff Millennium Centre!

The Conservatory:  joins on to the living dining room and provides a comfortable area to relax and enjoy the stunning views of Snowdonia. Furnished with simple conservatory furniture.

The Kitchen: is a fitted kitchen and has a washing machine, dishwasher, large fridge/freezer, microwave and electric hob and oven.

There are three bedrooms, one on the ground floor, the other two reached from the entrance hall via a hand crafted wooden staircase to the second floor.

Bedroom 1: is on the ground floor and has a double bed. There is a convenient shower cubicle in the room and a cloakroom with WC and basin in an adjacent room. This room is ideal for less able guests but equally suitable for any family member.

Bedroom 2: is a spacious double leading from the light and airy landing. The views from this room are truly stunning and it has a smart ensuite shower room with WC and basin.

Bedroom 3: is a triple with three full sized single beds.

Bathrooms: as well as the en suite shower room and ground floor cloakroom there is a family bathroom on the first floor.

Outside: is a lawned area and patio with table and chairs, a 7 seater hot tub just outside the conservatory also an open shed suitable for bike storage. Plenty of private parking available.

The superb Lon Las cycleway is about 500m away from the property and runs right down from the stunning Ogwen valley to Bangor through mountains, past rivers and through the historic slate quarries, not to be missed by bike or on foot. The river Ogwen has many pools suitable for swimming should the weather be kind, or the guests be brave. Then of course there is the world-famous Zip World Velocity zip wire, just a short walk from your front door. For more relaxing activities the National Trust's Penrhyn Castle is around 3 miles away and the city of Bangor has a leisure centre and popular new arts centre called Pontio, and a great cafe tucked away in the main town called Blue Sky where you can cosy up in front of the log burner and enjoy fantastic homemade local produce.

Note: The hot tub is a lay-Z-spa Monaco type and is inflatable with rigid sides. Please note that due to damage to the hot tub here is a slight sag, and a slight bulge in the inside of the tub. This does not affect the use at all, but it just doesn't look perfect!

Electricity and heating included

Bed linen and towels included

A raised toilet seat and a high chair are available on request

No smoking inside please

Reviews

Property location was excellent and easy to find, host were welcoming.

Gary G,

We had an excellent stay at Ty Gwair. The location was ideal, short drives into Snowdonia, Bangor and Anglesey and within walking distance of Zip World. Lovely, well kept cottage with all the amenities we could have needed for long weekend break. Hosts were very friendly, welcoming and helpful.

Mr J W,

Would definitely stay again.

Mrs Teresa C,

Great time, we’ve enjoyed every minute, can’t thank you enough for all the attention to detail. This is a beautiful holiday home.

Mrs Carole M,

Thank you from all of us, thank you for the gift tray of goodies. We have had a lovely time you are situated so perfectly in the area. And the WEATHER!! What a huge bonus. Zipping enjoyed by all.

Ms Nikki T,

We’ve had a lovely stay at Ty Gwair from start to finish. Thank you Dave and Val. A warm welcome and helpful local knowledge. The personal touches, books and games have been enjoyed by all from Helena (18 months) upwards, particularly Boggle! The boys have loved the hot tub and the field, including the Hobbits house – a nice bonus. So much to do in the area, will have to come back! Zip World Fforest “coaster” yesterday was a particularly fun end to the holiday.

Ms Rosemary S,

Thanks for making our birthday celebrations special, the views were amazing and your tips on local walks were invaluable.

Luke M,

Thanks for your hospitality. We’ve enjoyed our mini-break. The views were fantastic, even in the rain. Relaxing in the conservatory was splendid. Hope to come back soon.

Sean W,

Mr Michael P,

Thanks so much for a wonderful week at Ty Gwair. We have really enjoyed our stay and have made the most of the decent weather. Highlights of the week include a new years day ascent of Moel y Ci, canoeing on Llyn Padarn and Llyn Dinas, visiting Penrhyn Castle, as well as some kayaking, running and biking adventures . Thanks for the great hospitality and welcome goodies. We hope to return. All the best

Claire P,

Thank you both very much for your kindness and fantastic hospitality. We really enjoyed the fresh eggs, flowers and goodies hamper. The views from the conservatory, upstairs bedroom and hot tub have been wonderful and a delight enjoyed over breakfast each morning. Welsh cakes are superb. We have had fun exploring Snowdon and Zipworld and look forward to staying here again soon and enjoying the walks suggested in your guide. Mrs Jen S,

From the gang of 4 from California. Love Wales – love the green hills. Thanks for the welcome basket of goodies and all the lovely fresh flowers! What a welcome. Enjoyed Dave telling us about the house and the area. Weather couldn’t be more perfect. Lots to see and do in the area. For a fancy night out we enjoyed the Slate restaurant near Penrhyn Castle (Tal-y-bont) otherwise you couldn’t go wrong with pub meals! Sunday carvers are great. We enjoyed food and views on Anglesey in Moelfre at Robinsons pub. We had a great trip this week and thank you for the great hospitality!

Robin G,

It was a holiday well spent in such a lovely house with breathtaking views. We had the chance to visit some fantastic places as we were close to the mountains. This holiday will forever be remembered, as will this cottage. Lastly, thank you to 2 wonderful people. Dave and Val, you have been a great host to us. From everyone, thanks for the memories.

Mr Hem L,

A great week’s break for half term in a peaceful location. We have had mixed weather, beginning and ending the week with thunderstorms, but made the most of the warm, sunny days with walking and cycling. We also visited Conwy castle / town which is very impressive, as well as enjoying the forest-coaster. The climb up Tryfan’s north face was a challenge, mentally as well as physically, as was the bike ride up the Ogwen valley. The children enjoyed the hot tub and the conservatory is great for bird and bat watching. Many thanks for your welcome.

Mr Simon S,

Very nice for children! the winter garden is awesome.

Dr Alexandra H,

Thank you for a very nice stay in a beautiful place. For your good heart and help. The place is wonderful and very well cared for by the hosts. We will recommend this place to all our friends.
