Jacky, our property recruiter at Wales Cottage Holidays, has been out and about again exploring the area around the university city of Bangor in North Wales. Here are Jacky’s top 7 things to see and do whilst on your holiday in the area:
Day 1: The small city of Bangor itself is worth a visit, with its cathedral dating from the 11th century, Storiel art gallery and museum, leisure centre, impressive Pontio art centre and cinema and the delightful Bangor Pier where you can take a lovely stroll to the end, with views over to Anglesey, and a little tearoom serving homemade cakes.
Day 2: Greenwood Forest park, just a few miles from Bangor, is the perfect family day out. It’s set in a lovely environment, with a people powered roller coaster, solar water slide, indoor play area and much much more!
Day 3: Lon Las cycle way goes from Porth Penrhyn in Bangor, following old railway cuttings through woodland right up to the stunning Ogwen Valley.
Day 4: The National Trusts Penrhyn Castle is on the outskirts of Bangor. It is a 19th century fantasy castle set in gorgeous grounds, with landscaped gardens, a play area, café and railway museum. Another must visit attraction in the area.
Day 5: For eating out during the daytime try the amazing Blue Sky Café in Bangor for homemade locally sourced produce, great teas and coffee, local beer and Gin and regular evening gigs and entertainment. Tyn Rhos country house hotel offers a 5* evening eating experience, advance booking required.
Day 6: The bridge to bridge walk (see on myviewranger.com ) takes in the two famous bridges crossing the Menai Straits, passing through woodland and with lovely views.
Day 7: Bangor is just on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park so it’s easy to access the mountains, lakes and stunning scenery that the park has to offer.
Property was roomy. Local area good for visiting. Will come here again.Mrs Rita Coop - 2nd July 2018
Excellent service. Lovely cottage.Mr Ross Mason - 8th May 2018
The cottage is even better than the photos on the website show. It is bigger than we expected and very comfortable. Very well equipped. We were welcomed with a cake and a bottle of wine, which is always a great start. The location is very rural, but not too far from shops, etc by car. There is little noise from traffic other than a very, very distant rumble of traffic, but you have to be listening for it to notice it. Overall, we would highly recommend this property.Mr S Reynolds - 11th September 2017
All very comfortable Mrs C Price - 16th August 2017
Our hosts were incredibly accommodating. Had homemade cakes and didn't want for anything all the details were a lovely personal touch. Perfect location for Zip world too! Ms Tate Miller - 27th June 2017

We were very pleased with the cottage, it was in an excellent location, with beautiful views. It was extremely well equipped with every thing that you could need. Plenty of space to park the car safely. Made very welcome when we arrived, with water, wine, and orange juice in the fridge and cakes. The cottage was great for getting about and visiting the local area and was in easy reach of Anglesey, Caernarfon and Bangor. Would recommend to other families.Mr Jones - 3rd September 2015
