Description

Carreg Cottage is a newly renovated cottage in a fabulous location, nestled in mountains, in Capel Curig, right in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. Footpaths will take you from the door up the popular mountain of Moel Siabod or over to the lakes of Crafnant and Geirionydd, whilst a regular bus service, with bus stop right outside the cottage, will take you the short distance to the foot of Snowdon, for paths up to the summit of the highest mountain in England and Wales. The cottage is well set up for outdoor activities with a large utility room for outdoor kit, a washing machine and a cosy wood burning stove in the sitting room. There is a popular outdoor clothing/gear shop and general store a few yards away, two lovely pubs serving food, the Bryn Tyrch and the Tyn Y Coed, and a fantastic cafe (Siabod Cafe), just down the road. On top of all that the National Outdoor Centre, Plas Y Brenin, is nearby, where you can take part in the many courses and taster days they have to offer or just visit the lively bar and ski slope.

Local Area

Capel Curig is a charming village set on the river Llugwy in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, at the junction of three beautiful valleys, making it the perfect base from which to head into the mountains. Even though Capel Curig is small it has an outdoor gear shop, local store and café, so whether you are walking, mountaineering, climbing or mountain biking you can make sure you have the correct kit! Capel Curig is a hub for outdoor activities and is surrounded by the dramatic mountainous terrain of Snowdonia. The village is served by the Sherpa bus network which gives great access to Snowdon itself and nearby villages such as Betws-y-Coed, Llanberis and Bethesda. Plas-y- Brenin, the National Sports Centre is located here, where you can join the many outdoor courses run throughout the year, visit the lively bar, which often has live music, or ski on the artificial ski slope.

A short stroll away down the road towards Betws-y-Coed is a good pub, the Bryn Tyrch, serving food, and a popular café, Siabod Café, serving homemade goodies and, my favourite, enormous scones! A mile or so further again is another popular pub the Tyn y Coed. About 6 miles away is the pretty village of Betws-y-Coed, known as the ‘Gateway to Snowdonia’ and another hub of outdoor activities, including beautiful walking along the river by cascading waterfalls and the Tree Top Adventure High Ropes Course. Mountain biking is also popular here with Gwydir Mawr and Bach trails running through the forests, and bike hire locally. Betws-y-Coed also has a good selection of shops, cafes, pubs and places to eat, it is home to the Snowdonia National Park Visitor Centre and has a miniature railway and riverside golf course.

Capel Curig is near the footpaths up Snowdon, 9 miles from Zip World Velocity zip wire at Bethesda, and 11 miles from Llanberis, with the train up Snowdon or along Padarn lake, and the National Slate Museum.

Carreg Cottage is in the centre of Capel Curig and is well equipped for outdoor enthusiasts, families and pets, with a large utility room for outdoor kit with a sink and washing machine, plus a cosy woodburning stove in the lounge.

Reviews

Beautifully presented and very welcoming!Mrs Linda Huxley - 23rd July 2018
It is a lovely cottage for a family with a handy utility room (which forms the back entrance) and plenty of space, a bright kitchen ad nice eating area as well as a cosy lounge with a wood burning stove. The area is quiet and there is no noise from the road nearby (we slept with windows closed, may be different in high summer if people want to leave windows open?). The area is beautiful, with walks starting minutes from the cottage and a very nice pub only 5 minutes walk away. There are many activities and points of interest a short drive away, enough to keep a family busy for days! Ms Veronique Ayme - 31st May 2018
Stunning cottage, would definitely recommend. Mrs Helen Wainwright - 21st May 2018
This cottage has been renovated to a very high standard, the finish of the decor is excellent and what seems like a small cottage from the outside is very spacious inside, I particularly liked the kitchen and the use of skylights to let in natural light. Top notch location, so much to do either a short walk or drive away.Mr Ian Leyland - 14th May 2018
The cottage has been beautifully restored with excellent kitchen and bathroom amenities. Exceptionally clean and light. The Broadband connection was far superior to what we are used to and Android TV was a revelation. Very well located for exploring the area around Mount Snowdon and easy to park outside. The Sherpa bus stops in front of the cottage. Local shop nearby and places to eat. Very easy to communicate with the friendly owners. Highly recommended.Lynn Ballard - 20th April 2018
We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage is really nice and well laid out. We enjoyed some good days out including walking the valley to Lake Ogwen, climbing Snowdon, visiting Porthmadog (Big Rock Cafe was nice), a local walk to Llyn Crafnant and Great Orme at Llandudno. Also enjoyed our evenings in front of the log burner and at the Bryn Tyrch pub. Thank you.Mrs Susan Baron - 13th April 2018
Really well laid out cottage. We particularly liked the boot room, for when we returned from wet and muddy walks! Excellent location for all we wanted to do - from Zipworld to Snowdon. The folder was very useful too, we tried Bryn Tyrch, which was brilliant, used the buses from outside the front door and sampled a couple of local walks. Would definitely recommend.Mr P Jeanes - 9th April 2018
Wow! This is such a wonderfully restored cottage, with fantastic facilities - we loved how well stocked and thought out it was - we particularly enjoyed the log fire on our cold and snowy nights. It is perfectly located for visiting and walking in the stunning area. We would certainly recommend it to others. Thanks.Mrs 'X' - 16th February 2018
