Local Area

This detached Snowdonia holiday cottage is located 1.5 mile south-west of Dolgellau market town, on the lower slopes of mount Cadair Idris. It sits in its own grounds on a rocky knoll with stunning and extensive 360º views. Enclosed by substantial dry stone walling, the surrounding farmland is mainly well kept sheep pasture. It is possible to walk to Dolgellau along a scenic country lane and this pretty town also happens to be home to more than 200 listed buildings - more than any other town in Wales.

There is no shortage of highly recommended restaurants in Dolgellau and the surrounding area either. Amongst the favourites are Y Meirionydd, Gwin Dylanwad Wine, Tafarn y Gader Tapas and The Royal Ship Hotel, all in Dolgellau itself (1.5 miles). Just outside the town you also have Bwyty Mawddach Restaurant (2.5 miles). The nearest pub (Gwernan Lake) is even closer, just 1 mile from the cottage, whilst The Royal Ship and The Unicorn are also recommended in Dolgellau. There are some amazing cafes such as T.H. Roberts and amongst the other amenities there are 3 supermarkets, a local butchers, grocer, bakeries, chemists and 3 banks.

The Dolgellau area of southern Snowdonia offers an extensive range of footpaths and signposted walks to suit all abilities. In addition to the obvious challenge of Cadair Idris, Dolgellau is also the starting point of the Mawddach Trail (walking and cycle route to the beautiful Mawddach Estuary and Barmouth on the coast). Coed y Brenin's world renowned Mountain Biking Centre is also within 10 miles and there are 2 glorious sandy beaches at Fairbourne (10 miles) and Barmouth (12 miles).

Some of the other popular attractions in the area includes Bounce Below (the largest underground trampoline in Europe) and the Zip Wire ride in Blaenau Ffestiniog. You also have the National White Water Rafting Centre near Bala. For something a little more relaxing, you have options such as Harlech Castle’s World Heritage site, the Centre for Alternative Technology, Corris Craft Centre and King Arthur's Labyrinth. Most of Wales’ narrow gauge railways are also located in this area, including Talyllyn narrow gauge railway and the Blaenau Ffestiniog to Porthmadog line. If that's not enough, you also have RSPB Reserves and two Osprey Nest viewing hides nearby.

Reviews

A very special cottage in spectacular surroundings. Easy to book online.Mr J Evitts - 5th August 2018
We had a brilliant week in every way. The cottage was lovely, very high standard of cleanliness and had everything we needed for our stay. The views from the cottage were breathtaking and the area is extremely beautiful all helped by the glorious weather. The whole experience was first class and the service from start to finish with The Best of Wales was excellent. Thank you, Kate and a Brian Walker and Alfie the border terrier!Mrs Kathleen Walker - 30th July 2018
High quality holiday cottage with excellent facilities, finished to a very high standard and in a wonderful location. The level of equipment was very good, we were very happy. We always holiday in the UK, but never visit the same property twice as there are so many available. However, we have re-booked this property for 2019 as we loved it so much. The cottage has pretty much everything you need, and is excellent for a dog as the garden is secure and big enough for a dog to run around. The location is excellent for exploring the area from Aberystwyth to Anglesey and there is so much to do. It rained every day of our last visit, yet we still enjoyed ourselves and look forward to returning for a longer stay next time. Best of Wales have been excellent. Professional, knowledgeable. They are extremely helpful and very friendly. A pleasure to deal with. If I had a holiday home to let out, they would be my choice. I cannot fault them. The booking process is simple and hassle free. Adrian from Somerset - 3rd July 2018
Wonderful holiday. Great cottage. Lots to do nearby. Would hire again if we go to that area. Thank you.Mrs Elaine Hardiment - 10th June 2018
The location is excellent. This was our second visit to this property and would highly recommend it.Robert from Cumbria - 6th May 2018
We have rented holiday cottages for over 25 years and this is one of the best. Lovely property with stunning views and plenty of space for our dog to enjoy games in the grounds. Maxine from Oxfordshire - 29th April 2018
Really wonderful week spent at this adorable property in an idyllic location. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, many thanks!!!Adrian from Dyfed - 22nd April 2018
Amazing! Magical! Property was perfect for our needs, would love to stay again! Good correspondence. Informative website.Louise from Suffolk - 8th April 2018
A lovely cottage that kept us cosy and warm and looked after us beautifully for the week. Every need catered for -Thank you. Stunning scenery and amazing walks. Sad to leave, but hope to return noon. Chris & Lindy - Suffolk - 2nd February 2018
A lovely cottage in a great location. Beautifully presented, warm and welcoming after a long drive and a lovely hamper of goodies and decorations for our Christmas stay.Suzanne from Cornwall - 27th January 2018
It ticked every box: presented to a very high standard - no expense spared on the fittings - and in a perfect location: close enough to Dolgellau yet remote. Our only neighbours were the sheep! Superb views. Great walks on the doorstep. Warm, cosy, romantic. Have no hesitation in recommending the cottage to our friends.Ms L Ladbrooke - 5th November 2017
Thoroughly enjoyable week in a beautiful property.
We enjoyed climbing Cader Idris. The Precipice walk is a must, Creggenen lakes and Coed y Brenen for a forest walk. Coffee and cake at T.H.Roberts and dinner at the tapas restaurant in Dolgellau.Debbie from Surrey - 25th July 2017
Excellent experience
See Cwm Bychan and Café Indiana in Fairbourne is great.Couple from Herts - 24th July 2017
We had a wonderful, relaxing holiday with our two terriers. The location was very peaceful but close to shops/coffee, the house was comfortable and welcoming and the walking was straight from the front door.
Barmouth and Harlech beaches are wonderful if you have dogs or children and the view from the top of Cader Idris is spectacular or just sit outside the cottage with a coffee and enjoy the peace.Tracey from East Sussex - 11th July 2017
The cottage is just perfect, very well equipped, very cosy, we loved it, never been so relaxed on holiday and it's the best cottage we have stayed in. Our dog Bella also loved the garden. We were all very sad to leave. Barmouth was lovely and we also went to Surf Snowdonia on my partners birthday, which is an amazing place, it's not just a surf place but other water activities, a great viewing place to watch what's going on and a few cafes, it is about an hour away but the journey through the spectacular scenery is worth it. We were a bit disappointed with Swallow Falls, they are beautiful but you have to pay £1.50 each to get in and it is just a view point, we thought you would be able to walk around. We just loved relaxing in the cottage garden and enjoying the amazing weather we had. This was our first time in North Wales and we loved it.Jo from Newport, Gwent - 28th May 2017
Wonderful cottage, very quiet area with beautiful views. The cottage is well equipped and very clean. It has an enclosed garden which was great for the dogs and gave them freedom to run around. The wifi is stable and good.
Wonderful walks at Coed Y Brenin, just a couple of miles away. Two small supermarket in town, but ASDA will deliver to the cottage.Rose from Somerset - 21st May 2017
