This gorgeous stone cottage is at the end of a narrow lane in the Snowdonia town of Dolgellau, next to the chapel after which it is named and just a short walk to local shops, restaurants and pubs. Tabernacle Cottage has been beautifully restored to provide a perfect base from which to explore Snowdonia National Park. It sleeps up to five guests in two bedrooms.
Built almost 200 years ago, this luxury cottage is full of charm and personality - thick granite walls with deep window sills, exposed larch beams (some of which are thought to come from sailing ships) and huge original slabs of slate on the kitchen floor hewn from the surrounding landscape. It is generously equipped - logs for the stove, tea, coffee, WiFi, Cath Kidston soaps, bed linen and fluffy white towels are all included. The cottage is also baby friendly - with a travel cot, high chair, baby bouncing chair, bath chair, changing mat, baby play mat, steriliser, mini food processor, toddler step-up and toddler toilet training seat. There are stair gates that can be fixed to the top landing area outside the bedrooms and at the top of the staircase leading down into the kitchen to give added peace of mind when bringing young children and there is even secure storage for prams and bikes.
The luxury holiday cottage in Dolgellau is arranged over three floors and is presented to a very high boutique style standard including bespoke soft furnishings. The focal point of the large lounge is a gorgeous Franco Belge wood-burning stove providing extra warmth if required - although the cottage has full gas central heating. The lounge is attractively furnished with two luxurious sofas, flatscreen TV, DVD player, Freeview channels, CD player/radio/iPod docking station. Selection of board games, cards and books for all ages are included for your use.
A winding oak staircase leads from here up to two bedrooms and a shower room. Both bedrooms have beamed vaulted ceilings; one has a double bed and the other a double bed and a quirky cabin single bed. All beds have quality pocket sprung mattresses and pretty cotton bedding with quilted bed throws if required. The shower room has a luxury suite with walk-in 'rainwater' style shower with body rinser, sink and WC (please note no bath). Hand soap, shower gel and shampoo are provided.
Downstairs is a gorgeous large kitchen diner with slate original flooring, microwave, fridge with icebox, large electric range oven and hob, washing machine and an extending oak table and seating for seven. From here double French doors lead to the courtyard style garden with attractive views across the town to the hills. The patio area has a slate table and chairs and there is a separate decking area with a further table and chairs; ideal for sitting and enjoying a book with glass of wine or eat here with friends on sunny days. Barbecue facilities are included. Off the kitchen is storage space for bicycles, rucksacks, boots, push chairs, golf clubs.
Please note there is no parking immediately outside the cottage but there are spaces nearby.
Electricity and heating included. Initial basket of logs supplied.
Bed linen and towels provided.
Strictly no smoking please.

Dolgellau is an ancient market town with over 200 listed buildings, supposedly the highest density in Wales. The name Dolgellau, pronounced Dol-geth-lie, is thought to derive from the words "dol" meaning "meadow" and "(y) gelli" meaning "grove" or "spinney" giving the translation "Meadow of Groves". King Arthur and his knights were said to roam freely in the area and held court at the mighty peak Cader Idris, also known as the Seat of Arthur.
Dolgellau is the perfect base to explore Snowdonia National Park. There's plenty of things to do whatever the weather - walking, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, kayaking, forest playgrounds, the Centre for Alternative Technology and King Arthur's Labyrinth.
Dolgellau is great for exploring the beaches of North Wales - there is a popular beach at Barmouth and quieter Blue Flag beach at Fairbourne, both about 15 minutes drive along the Mawddach estuary. A steam engine runs from Fairbourne as well. And it's only a short drive to wonderful Portmeirion and Harlech Castle.
There's a great choice of places to eat in and around Dolgellau. From friendly cafes to pubs with blazing fires and gourmet restaurants noted for their quality and use of fresh, local ingredients. Try Welsh Black Beef, local sea bass or sewin, freshly baked Bara Brith, Welsh cakes and honey buns. You could even drink in the old courthouse or Owain Glyndwr's parliament building.
OUR TOP THINGS TO DO

Visit Coed y Brenin - great for mountain biking and Go Ape climbing of course, but also a good visotor centre and cafe.

We had an absolutely wonderful break in Wales. Both cottages were lovely - we didn't want to leave either place! Christina was so welcoming and gave us so much helpful advice. We'll definitely be back in touch in future as we're just so impressed with the standard of the properties.Hannah T - 22nd January 2016
