Snowdonia & the Lleyn Peninsula Events - April & May
Spring has sprung and there is plenty of events taking place throughout the Snowdonia National Park and the Lleyn Peninsula. Whether you are looking for an adrenaline rush, the satisfaction of a challenge completed or just a bit of a laugh there will be an event for you!
Rally North Wales, Dolgellau
★ Saturday 1st April 2017 ★ Rally Headquarters Gwyndaf Evans Motors, Arran Road, Marian Mawr LL40 1DG ★
The Wolverhampton & South Staffs Car Club’s 2016 gravel rally will take place on Saturday 1 April based around Dolgellau. Some of the best UK rally drivers took part last year and the rally will feature some world renowned stages in the Dyfi Forest complex. The competitive mileage will be centered on the classic Dyfi Forest complex which offers crews some of the most challenging gravel stages in the world, used on Wales Rally GB; the Service Park will be Dolgellau Farmers Mart.
Harlech Tri/Duathlon and Fun Run

Enjoy the historic town, magnificent castle and sandy beach of Harlech and keep fit at the same time! For the more leisurely trip there is a fun run for both adults and children. Running is optional and the finish is up at the castle where you can get your breath back while enjoying the stunning view. More serious athletes should go for the Triathlon with a 400m swim in the pool, a 21K bike ride round a spectator friendly route and finish with a 6k run, again finishing at the castle. A duathlon with a short first run, bike ride then a final run is also on offer.
★ Saturday 22 April 2017 ★ Coed y Brenin Forest LL40 2HZ ★
Test yourself with this new challenging course of tracks and trails covering 9 miles over the gold bearing grounds of the forest of Coed y Brenin. There will be some St Johns Ambulance volunteers at the finish line but otherwise it is you against the forest. If you fancy a bit of canine company why not take part in the separate Cani-Cross Race? All dogs must be in a harness and attached to you via a bungee but a great way to enjoy quality time with man's best friend!
Machynlleth Comedy Festival

The organisers of the Machynlleth Comedy Festival like to do things a little bit differently. A huge range of acts are already signed up to perform from newcomers to award winners and all the venues are located centrally to this town in the heart of Mid Wales. The venues offer intimate performance spaces, although the Monster Comedy Shed, with an audience capacity of 4, may leave some people feeling a little too exposed! As well as the comedy there is usually a theatre and music programme as well as shows aimed purely for children.
Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza

The event, which celebrated 30 years in 2016, is held in the popular seaside resort of Llandudno which has architectural importance from the Victorian Era. The extravaganza consists of a Victorian street fair, street parades, steam engines, stalls and old fairground rides. Visit the town over this weekend and feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The people dressed in Victorian costumes all over the town will certainly help with the illusion!
Welsh Highland Railway Rail Ale

The Goods Shed at the Welsh Highland Railway Station will be transformed for the weekend into a bar and music venue with over one hundred real ales on tap, Welsh cider and perry, and a Welsh-brewed lager. One of the beers has been brewed especially for this event by a local microbrewery. Once you’ve sampled the ales on offer, jump on board a steam-hauled train showcasing the stunning Snowdonia countryside.

The Slateman Triathlon is based in the stunning Snowdonia National Park. This incredible challenge is not for the faint-hearted. On Saturday, take part in the ‘Slateman Sprint’ which is made up of a 400 metre lake swim, a 20km Road cycle and a 6km run. If you want to challenge yourself a bit more, take part on Sunday for the ‘Slateman Full’ where the distances change. The lake swim is 1,000 metres, the road cycle is 51km, finished with an 11km trail run. For the ultimate fitness test, earn the title of completing the ‘Slateman Savage’. This is where you would need to complete the Slateman Sprint on Saturday AND the Slateman Full on Sunday! Good luck!
