This delightful, pet friendly, detached cottage offers a beautiful retreat with a private hot tub in the tranquil surroundings of the Cywarch Valley near Dinas Mawddwy. Set at the foot of Aran Fawddwy, the highest mountain in southern Snowdonia, Troed yr Aran is an ideal location to explore Mid and North Wales. Traditional village pub, café and craft centre within 2.5 miles. Great walks from the doorstep, fishing available on nearby river, close to world renowned mountain biking centre and a wide range of other popular attractions.

Ground Floor

The beautiful large kitchen has an oil Rayburn set in a brick fireplace, dishwasher, oven, hob and grill, fridge, microwave and dining table. Very well equipped, plenty of cupboard space and Portmeirion crockery.

The large living room has a wood burning stove set inside an old slate and stone fireplace. Comfortable and cosy room also equipped with TV and DVD player.

Utility room with washing machine and dryer, freezer, bike storage and ironing facilities.

Second double bedroom, also tastefully decorated with views over surrounding fields.

Cosy third bedroom with full size bunk beds - only suitable for children.

The cottage is situated in the peaceful Cywarch Valley (Cwm Cywarch in Welsh) near Dinas Mawddwy in Southern Snowdonia. Situated 15 minutes from both the market towns of Dolgellau and Machynlleth, it is an ideal location to explore Snowdonia and Mid Wales.

Surrounded by fields, streams, wildlife and farm animals, the cottage is just 2.3 miles from the nearest village pub (with good food) in Dinas Mawddwy and 4 miles from the nearest garage and grocery store. Dinas Mawddwy is also home to Meirion Mill craft shop and café.

There are many activities that can be enjoyed during your stay at Troed yr Aran self catering cottage. Snowdonia’s very own Aran Fawddwy (2971ft) provides a great challenge for walkers and there are plenty of good valley walks to try out as well. There is also a world renowned mountain biking centre just north of Dolgellau at Coed-y-Brenin. Salmon and trout fishing are available on the river Dyfi. Pony trekking is also available locally. 3 miles north of the cottage, Bwlch y Groes (the highest pass in Wales) leads to Vyrnwy and Bala lakes with their wide range of watersports.

Popular attractions in the area include the Centre for Alternative Technology, Corris Craft Centre, King Arthur's Labyrinth, RSPB Nature Reserves (including Lake Vyrnwy), and Mari Eluned Jewellery Gallery. Or you can take a trip on one of the nearby narrow gauge railways. The nearest sandy beaches can be found in Fairbourne (20 miles) and Barmouth (21 miles).


Aran Fawddwy – Starting in dramatic Cwm Cywarch, this route to the summit of Aran Fawddwy is one of the great walks of Snowdonia. The scenery is superb with deep valleys and rolling hills the main characteristic of the area. Only 9 metres (30 ft) short of being a member of the Welsh 3000s, it’s the 16th highest summit in Wales. 0.1 miles from cottage.

Dyfi Valley Way – follow the River Dyfi from the estuary in Aberdyfi to the source at the summit of Aran Fawddwy and back down along the south side of the river via Machynlleth and down to Borth. Maps and guides can be obtained at the Tourist Information Centre in Machynlleth. Join path 0.1 miles from cottage.

Glyndwr's Way is a long distance footpath in Mid Wales that was granted National Trail status in the year 2000. Maps and guides can be obtained at the Tourist Information Centre in Machynlleth. Join the path in Cemaes, 10 miles.

Torrent Walk – Brithdir - moderate leisure walk approx 2½ miles along the river long. 10.5 miles

The Mawddach Trail – Dolgellau - suitable for all ages – walkers, cyclists and wheelchair users. 12 miles from cottage

Cadair Idris (mountain walk) – 3 main routes starting from Dolgellau (12 miles), Minffordd (12.5 miles) and Abergynolwyn (18 miles).

Precipice Walk – Dolgellau - suitable for all ages. 12 miles


Guests can have access to the river that runs to the owners' farm. 0.1 miles from the cottage

River Dyfi offers excellent fishing and is famous for its brown trout, salmon and sea trout. Guests can also have access to fish the Dyfi on the owners' land. 2.5 miles from the cottage.

There are also a range of opportunities to go fishing in the Dolgellau area with suitable options for all ages.
