This fabulous property, situated on a small holding just 4.5 miles from the pretty village of Dolgellau, is perfect for couples or families looking for an escape to the Welsh countryside. Sleeping four across two cosy bedrooms, each with its own en-suite, this beautiful house is a relaxing accommodation to return to after a long day out exploring Snowdonia National Park. Spend the day at Coed y Brenin Forest Park (12 miles) cycling along the trails, before coming home and enjoying an al fresco meal in south-facing garden.

The holiday home, which is a 200-year-old converted coach house and stables, is surrounded by natural beauty. Say hello to sheep, goats and ducks on the small holding or take in the beautiful views of Cader Idris. Inside, the property is laid out in a reverse-level style. On the first floor, the bright and airy kitchen/diner is an ideal spot for sociable dinners, while exposed stone walls and wooden beams in the living room create a welcoming space. Curl up in front of the wood burner-effect electric fire on comfy sofas and watch some TV. Downstairs, peaceful bedrooms with neutral, cottage-style decor await; wake up to a lovely garden and mountain views from the patio doors in the double room.

Pull on your walking boots and take a 5-mile hike around the foothills of Cader Idris from Dolgellau, passing through the wooded countryside and hidden farms and valleys. If you’ve got little legs with you, take in the national park by rail; choose from the Corris Steam Railway (11.5 miles) and Fairbourne Steam Railway (13 miles). Fairbourne also has a beach that’s perfect for sandcastles, or you could head over the estuary to Barmouth Beach (14 miles).

This was our second visit at the Coach House, and we would visit again. We visited with a child of 7, and both times he has taken a road mat and cars with him, and there was plenty of time to put this out in the lounge! There were two evenings where we didnt fancy eating out, but as I always cook at home, we went to the local co-op (a short drive tRead moreo the main area of Dolgellau) and got some of the nicer microwave meals. I also made us a packed lunch each day, and we had breakfast in the house and many cups of tea and coffee. Everything worked well and we had everything we needed. The house was lovely and warm. The owners are very friendly and would be happy to help if you had any questions. When we arrived, there were a bunch of flowers on the table, lots of nice treats (thank you!) and the bird feeders on the windows were full so any time we ate at the table, we could watch the birds. The area itself is great too, you can go for a nice walk by the house in the evening, and we found its easy to access many places (north coast, east and west) in around an hour or just over, which is why this is also such a good base. I would definitely recommend this is anyone looking to visit the Snowdonia area. Hide

The Coach House is an excellent base to explore the area. It is an amazing place! Spotlessly clean, so well equipped, comfy, homely and full of character. The owners Lisa and Alan were so welcoming. It is only graded as 4 stars but it should be 5 plus. The area is so peaceful and relaxing and the views when clouds allowed stunning. A really lovely week, visited Barmouth, Bodnant Gardens, waterfalls, Welsh Highland Railways and Portmeirion. The weather was very kind to us, it rained but only at convenient times! Lovely cottage, such a peaceful setting. Many thanks to the owners, what a lovely couple they are. Many thanks for all the goodies on arrival.
