Location

Area Information

Located near the village of Rhigos on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Penderyn and it's world famous Whisky distillery is only 3 miles away and a visit is highly recommended.  Rhigos itself is a small village with a convenience store. The mountain road from Rhigos takes you over to the Rhondda Valley. Hirwaun, Glyn Neath, Aberdare and Merthyr are all within are short drive away.

Bike Park Wales is based in Merthyr and this is the first full scale mountain bike centre in the UK. It has over 40 tracks and trails suitable for every level from beginner up to pro. In addition to the MTB, the area also has great roads for road cycling. Many cycle events and races use the area including the L'Etape Wales, Dragon Ride, Valley Vello and many more. The infamous Devil's Elbow climb is only a short ride away and enough to challenge any cyclist.

The Brecon Beacons National Park is 520 square miles of natural beauty with rugged mountains, rolling hills, waterfalls and open countryside. Pen y Fan is a popular walk as it is the highest mountain in South Wales and in fact, across all of Southern Britain. The park is also an official Dark Sky reserve, testament to the outstanding quality of the night sky. Ideal for walking, fishing, horse riding, cycling and all outdoor activities.

Other highlights in South Wales include  the magnificent Caerphilly Castle, Castell Coch, Llancaiach Fawr Manor and Cafarthfa Castle. The Taff Trail is an excellent cycle track running from Brecon to Cardiff and is suitable for all ages and abilities. The track even runs on part of Trevithicks railway track, where the world's first locomotive railway journey was made some 20 years before George Stephenson's attempt. The Royal Mint Experience and Rhondda Heritage Park are just 2 other notable attractions.

Cardiff is some 30 miles away and great for a visit to the Principality Stadium, shopping, Cardiff Castle, Cardiff Bay or any of the many other attractions it has to offer. Swansea is around 28 miles away and is also a great city visit with the LC2 Leisure Centre, Waterquarter, Mumbles and, of course, the magical coastline of Gower.
