Property code: IVYMP

Located in an idyllic country estate with walled gardens, a 17th-century orangery, fishing lakes and more, this stone cottage in South Wales is a brilliant base for families. The property itself is bursting with character, having been thoughtfully restored whilst retaining much of its original charm with exposed beams and a wood burner. For days out, the seaside town of Porthcawl is just 6 miles away where you can experience a quintessential beachside experience with opportunities to surf, explore the rock pools and build sandcastles.

The living room is a warm and welcoming space decorated in earthy tones which will help you to unwind. A selection of leather sofas and armchairs ensure plenty of space for all the family to sprawl out for a film whilst the wood burner is the perfect antidote for those cold winter evenings. Next door, the kitchen is generously sized with a modern country style and a bar table with stools for your morning coffee. In addition, there is a delightful dining room with exposed beams across the vaulted ceiling, providing seating for five at the dinner table, with a couple of comfortable armchairs beside the patio door. Completing the ground floor is the shower room alongside a cloakroom. Upstairs is a family bathroom, alongside three bedrooms. The master bedroom features a spacious king-size bed located beneath the Velux window which fills the room with natural light. A further two bedrooms offer flexibility in the sleeping arrangements with both a twin and a single bedroom, ideal for children. The garden area is your own private oasis with a patio area as well as a front lawn.

Margam Country Park itself ensures plenty for guests to do during their stay with children’s playgrounds and a rare breeds farm trail among the main attractions. What’s more, guests are welcome to explore the 1,000 acres of gardens, farmland and deer park, even when the park is closed to the public. Just 6 miles away, you’ll be able to access the Wales Coast Path for a rugged walk of winding cliff paths, rocky inlets and quaint secret beaches. Further inland, Afan Forest Park (16 miles) is filled with adventures for families whether you’re keen to test out the world-class mountain bike trails or simply soak in the tranquillity of the woodland.

This cottage is a true escape from reality - and still close to many facilities. Total relaxation in a beautiful setting. Cleanliness is amazing - and cottage is equipped with everything you are likely to need for your trip. Owners are so responsive and helpful. I just wish I never had to leave.

Amazing location! Lovely cottage well equipped, in a really lovely place. We loved being able to access the park early/late when very few others about. Only downside it is close to the Orangery which is an events venue for wedding receptions etc. On the night we arrived there was a wedding on and the music and fireworks were rather loud. ThankfullyRead more didn't go on really late. Another wedding later in the week we hardly noticed. Hide

The cottage is very nice and as mentioned the position and historical setting are what makes it special. I would recommend if you are attending a wedding in the Orangery, can stay a whole week and can afford the high price.

We had a wonderful time, cottage was comfortable and very well equipped. Margam Country Park was amazing, we loved the secret door and access to the park at all times. Especially Bat watching at dusk by the pond.

An absolute gem of a place, not just for us, but for our dogs too. 2 enclosed garden areas, welcome packs for the dogs and us, plus a very comfortable cottage to stay in and enjoy the park and local area. We had everything we needed and more. The green gate giving access to Margam Park really gave us the best holiday experience. Its amazing how youRead more see things differently going through the green gate rather than the usual main entrance. Thank you for letting us stay - weve booked again. Hide

The location is wonderful - close to M4 and right in Margam Park. Well-suited for a family, outdoor space and parking for 2 cars. Could use a good cleaning but in general, all you could ask for.

Loved Ivy cottage! Everything we needed, on our doorstep. We used the private door to the grounds, mornings and evenings (to spot deer, hares and bats) A private tour with Peter was very interesting, lots of history. Tour the Abbey and the stones museum. The cottage was definitely 5*. Beds were comfortable with extra duvets and pillows, rooms were Read morespacious and clean. Kitchen was fully stocked with all appliances and utensils. Pet welcome pack was lovely. We will return! Hide

What a fabulous space! We felt so relaxed being at Ivy Cottage, it had a really calming affect on our whole family. Our children are Autistic, and our youngest struggles to leave the house, but being so close to Margam Park he was out everyday, sometimes twice a day! Perfect for our little dog too, and the welcome pack was so cute. We will be back Read morenext year! Hide
