On a cloudless night, see a blanket of stars in the inky black sky from the balcony of this hideaway cottage for two, deep in rural Mid Wales. The single-storey retreat is 5 miles from the nearest town, Tregaron, and light pollution is minimal. Set on a four-acre smallholding, with lovely views of a beautiful, shared garden and rolling hills, this is a perfect spot to recharge your batteries. Two furry friends are welcome, and there’s a host of walks on the doorstep for you and your pets. A shop and pub are within 2.5 miles and there are shops and restaurants in historic Tregaron.
The open-plan lounge/kitchen diner is light and bright, with patio doors opening onto the balcony. Enjoy the view from the comfortable sofa and dining table in the living area. At the far end is a neat kitchen, and door to the pretty bedroom, with a king-size bed that can be made up as a twin. A shower room completes the layout. Outside, enjoy the beautiful vista from the balcony, which has garden furniture and a BBQ. Stroll round the shared garden, with a stream, wildlife pond and resident chickens. The owner’s B&B and a further holiday property are nearby but the cottage is secluded, with its own private entrance.
Just outside Tregaron lies the huge Cors Caron Nature Reserve (7 miles), home to more than 170 species of birds, with some from far-flung corners of the world. Visit the grand medieval abbey of Strata Florida (10.5 miles). Standing beside the River Teifi since 1201, it is the burial place of generations of Welsh princes. Further afield, enjoy a trip to the charming seaside town of Aberaeron (16.5 miles), with its painted houses and picturesque harbour.
