Gaze out towards the Black Mountains from this rural haven near Pantygelli in magnificent Monmouthshire. Lying within Bannau Brycheiniog, also known as the Brecon Beacons National Park, the one-bedroom retreat is just 2 miles from Abergavenny. A single-storey hideaway, it makes an outstanding base for couples or friends wishing to lose themselves in picturesque landscapes, with footpaths to follow and mountains to climb. Offering dog-friendly accommodation and featuring an enclosed courtyard garden, it is also a great option for anyone with a pup in tow.

Open the door to the stone cottage and wander in to discover a well-arranged lounge/kitchen/diner. Make yourselves at home in this space which has everything needed to ensure your comfort and contentment during your stay. Make a cup of tea to enjoy with a slice of the traditional sweet bara brith bread you have bought in Abergavenny or open a bottle of wine. Prepare meals on those occasions you decide to enjoy a quiet night in. Watch the TV or a DVD or simply lose yourselves in the beautiful views. When you are ready for a great night’s sleep, head through to the bedroom, which has a king-size bed that can also be arranged as two singles if discussed at booking. Indulge in a hot shower in the shower room when you awake before wandering through to make breakfast. There are shared laundry facilities with this property. Have morning coffee in the garden on warm days and take in the views out here too as the sun sets in the evening.

Venture into Abergavenny to potter in the many shops selling local produce or to dine out in a friendly pub or restaurant. Climb the Sugar Loaf Mountain, 3.5 miles from the cottage, and visit Tretower Court, a medieval fortified manor house, 10.5 miles away.

A beautiful, spotless, comfortable cottage. Amazing views. We were lucky to have sole access to a field for our dog to enjoy- she loved it especially when it snowed. We did loads including- climbed Sugarloaf mountain, walked the canal tow path and went to Barry Island. All in all we had a great time. Mr & Mrs Bishop were perfect hosts.

Great for exploring the Black mountains, with everything you need for two people. Modern, very functional and so clean. It's probably also the most dog-friendly place we have stayed. A Sheep-free field was kindly made available by the owners, who made us feel very welcome. It's handy to have a pub only a few minutes walk away, with no need to driveRead more for food and drink. It's not quite fine dining, but is good value; ignore the pub website about dining with a dog, and ring to book. Hide
