This rural escape is set in the foothills of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons), less than 4 miles from the market town of Brecon. The stunning property is bursting with personality and charm, thanks to a myriad of original features. Sleeping eight guests, it’s perfect for families and groups of friends looking to rest and recharge in beautiful surroundings. The walking opportunities in the area are endless, and you can scale the peaks of Cribyn, Fan y Big, and Pen y Fan directly from the property.

The converted farmhouse really does have the wow factor, thanks to its fascinating period features and eclectic mix of antique-style furniture. Enter the holiday retreat into a spacious hallway where you can store outdoor gear. There’s also an array of seating here and a desk, making this a lovely spot to curl up with a book or catch up on some emails. You’ll find two king-size bedrooms on this floor, along with the family bathroom and a utility room. An elegant, oak staircase leads to the first floor and the impressive, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, with its fabulous vaulted ceiling and exposed beams. At the far end is a farmhouse-style kitchen with vibrant tiles and all the equipment needed to cater for a large group. Come together for mealtimes around the grand dining table, before retiring to the cosy lounge area to watch the Smart TV, listen to music on the jukebox, or read a book in the glow of the wood burner. A small staircase leads to the remaining bedrooms, both with en-suite shower rooms. Outside, a picturesque, enclosed garden awaits with flowering shrubs, a lawn, outdoor furniture, a BBQ, and far-reaching views.

The Georgian market town of Brecon is 3.5 miles away. Spend time, perusing the independent shops and boutiques, before popping into a friendly coffee shop or a local pub. Catch a show at the famous Theatr Brycheiniog, or perhaps hire a boat at the canal basin and explore the area by water. A key fact about Old Croftau, is that the pictures simply do not do it justice. A magnificent upside-down property with views from the lounge windows that make you pause as you walk-by. The weather may not always play-ball, but you can walk from the door up onto three of the best, tallest beacons, tailoring your exercise to your time, desire and fiRead moretness-level. Brecon is close, but the property's placement means you can only see countryside, sheep and the ever-changing scenery. Highly recommend. Hide

A great cottage situated right at the foot of Pen Y Fan with excellent walking right from the door. Weather didn't play ball for us but we enjoyed relaxing in front of the wood burner listening to the jukebox. Old Crofftau was perfect for a mini break (and Sue & Kim couldnt have been more welcoming).
