This idyllic farmhouse enjoys a peaceful location in the heart of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons), 2 miles from Crickhowell and 7.5 miles from Abergavenny. The property sleeps eight guests and is perfect for families and friends looking to escape the humdrum of everyday life. You’ll find many walking routes to explore directly from the property, including through Craig y Cilau Nature Reserve and along the banks of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal.
The 19th-century stone farmhouse beautifully blends original features with contemporary furniture and creature comforts, to create a welcoming home-away-from-home. The spacious kitchen/diner is a bright, sociable space with a striking tiled floor and exposed stonework. Rustle up delicious feasts for the group in the farmhouse-style kitchen area and gather around the wooden table for dinner parties and family celebrations next to the cosy wood burner. In the evenings, sink into the sofas in the lounge to watch a film on the SkyTV or read a book. On chilly nights, light the wood burner, which is set in an ornamental stone fireplace. There is a double bedroom on the ground floor with patio doors leading to a small courtyard – the perfect spot for a morning coffee. Completing this level is a large hallway for storing outdoor gear, a handy utility room, and a shower room. A steep, spiral staircase leads to the first floor, where you’ll find the three remaining bedrooms. One of the bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom and there’s also a family bathroom on this floor. Outside, the enclosed, cottage garden has a large lawn for playing outdoor games, as well as furniture and a BBQ for al fresco dining.
Crickhowell is an attractive town with a fantastic range of independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. The town is a magnet for walkers, with easy access to the Black Mountains and routes from the town along the River Usk, Beacon’s Way, or to the summit of Crug Hywel. Keen anglers can obtain permits for fishing on the Usk and the Wye within the town, and you can hire canoes in nearby Glasbury (18 miles) to explore the area by water. If you’re thinking of dining out, the foodie haven of Abergavenny is just 7.5 miles away.
