A haven for couples seeking peace and quiet – and perhaps some adventure, too – this quaint property is in a lovely rural setting surrounded by walking and cycling routes. It’s dog-friendly and 1 mile from the nearest pub where you can enjoy a quiet evening pint. Just 2.5 miles away is the picturesque Llangorse Lake, which is excellent for boating in the summer. And if you’re feeling energetic, you won’t want to miss a chance to hike up to the popular Pen Y Fan summit (it’s 7.5 miles to the start of the route).
The property is located within the owner’s grounds and has a welcoming, rustic atmosphere to make you feel right at home. Inside, you’ll have an open-plan living space with plenty of natural light and charming views over the garden through the French doors. When you’ve been hiking in the hills all day, light up the wood burner, sink into one of the armchairs and switch on the TV for some easy entertainment. The kitchen has everything you need for preparing cooked breakfasts, hearty dinners and picnics full of treats for tomorrow. Outside, there’s a wraparound garden offering various spots to enjoy the sunshine, complete with mature trees, shrubs and two strategically placed benches.
When it’s time to venture out, the Brynich Lock hiking area (2.5 miles) is an excellent spot to park up before joining the popular Taff Trail. This 55-mile walking and cycling route links Cardiff and Brecon, taking in a mixture of riverside paths, forest roads and railway paths. Brecon (5 miles) is also well worth the trip; this lovely town, famed for its Georgian architecture, is where the rivers Usk and Honddu meet. You can visit its Royal Welsh Regimental Museum or medieval cathedral and, if the timings are right, view a film at its 1930s cinema.
