This waterside retreat is in the beautiful Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons), just 1 mile from the pretty village of Talybont-on-Usk. Sleeping five guests, the property makes a great base for groups of friends or families with older children. Stride out of your front door and follow the towpath of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal as it meanders into the village or take on one of the national park’s iconic peaks, such as Pen y Fan, just 6.5 miles away.
The traditional stone cottage has a homely feel, with antique-style furniture, floral soft furnishings and cute accessories. The inviting lounge is the perfect spot to unwind after a long day, with a cosy wood burner, an array of seating, and a TV/DVD player. Rustle up tasty meals for the group in the separate kitchen and gather in the dining room to eat together whilst admiring the spectacular hillside view through the window. A handy shower room completes the ground floor. Cottage-style stairs lead to the first floor, where you’ll find three pretty bedrooms, along with the family bathroom. Outside, the large garden is laid to lawn with furniture for outdoor dining, mature fruit trees, and a low wall separating it from the canal (please note, children must be supervised at all times).
Talybont-on-Usk has an excellent range of pubs, cafes, and restaurants serving local produce, as well as art galleries and craft shops to peruse. The village and surrounding area is a paradise for walkers and cyclists, with routes following the Taff Trail, along the canal towpath, and through Talybont Forest. Just outside the village is Talybont Reservoir, where you can spend the day fishing and birdwatching, or exploring the footpaths to the Blaen-y-Glyn waterfalls.
