Property code: BN276

This exceptional property (originally an 18th Century farmhouse now modernised for 21st Century living), combines the traditional and the contemporary, and is perfectly situated for exploring the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Just 10 miles from the Brecon Beacons, this cottage is a walker’s delight. Nearby Drostre Wood (2 miles) is rich with wildlife and is the perfect place to take little legs if they can’t quite manage a hike, as is Garwnant Forest (17 miles). Take a canoe out on the water with Celtic Canoes (12 miles), who run guided sessions as well as canoe hire and experience the Welsh countryside from a different perspective. And when you’re worn out and need a little indulgence, book a table at the nearby pub, less than 1 mile down the road, for some fine dining.

The cottage is deceivingly spacious and has beautiful decor that is sympathetic to this 18th-century property. Rich parquet flooring and cosy rugs in the living room welcome you to sink into the sofas in front of the wood burner while you enjoy some TV. You’ll find everything you need in the bright and airy kitchen/diner that has fantastic views from the window; sit and enjoy meals around the large dining table while you plan your day together. There’s a utility room with a sink, washing machine and drying area, making it the perfect place to store muddy boots after a day out walking. You’ll also find a separate WC on the ground floor. Heading up a flight of stairs you will find three large bedrooms; a tranquil double bedroom which has a spacious walk-in wardrobe, while a beautiful king-size bedroom has the best views in the house. The remaining room has three single beds, making it the ideal den for the kids. There’s also a separate shower room on this level as well as a peaceful family bathroom.

Head out to the garden where you’ll find a large lawn and a sheltered terrace with garden furniture. Look out across the most wonderful views across to the Beacons’ ridge from the Carmarthen Fan in the west to the Black Mountains in the east. There’s also a BBQ out here so you can enjoy an al fresco meal, watching the sun set behind the mountains. If you’ve got bikes with you, there’s a lockable barn next to the property.

  • 4 bedrooms – 1 double (accessed through triple bedroom), 1 triple – triple bedroom (easily converted to 1 x super-king (zip and link)  2 king-size and 1 x single)

Lovely cottage with great views of the hills and mountains. Very spacious and comfortable. Parking is easy and not too far from lakes, attractions and places to eat out.

We had a wonderful stay at the farmhouse. Our group was a baby with her parents and grandparents. It was nice to have somewhere with parking and the baby absolutely loved the cows and sheep in the fields just outside. It was lovely spacious accommodation with a well equipped kitchen (we cooked a few times) and comfortable beds. The baby equipment wRead moreas clean and in good condition. We enjoyed reading the booklet giving the history of the house. Very good positive contact in advance of our stay. Hide

Penrheol is a very comfortable home from home in a beautiful, peaceful location with easy access to Brecon and the National Park. We chose Penrheol because of the unusual opportunity to rent the adjoining artists studio which was perfect for our painting holiday. We enjoyed it hugely.
