This fabulous farmhouse situated near the town of books, Hay-on-Wye, makes for an exceptional base for families holidaying together or groups of friends looking to explore the Brecon Beacons. Sleeping eight guests across four bedrooms and welcoming one fluffy pup, this property has a spacious interior and a large enclosed garden perfect for your four-legged friend. Pop to nearby Hay to pick up a second-hand book or time it right and visit the literary festival.
The rural setting of this farmhouse will ensure peace and quiet, apart from the occasional bleating from the sheep. Ascend the stone steps and make your way into the porch where you can hang your coats, remove your muddy boots and even towel off the pooch before entering the house proper. If you’re in immediate need of a sit-down, move into the snug which has armchairs, a TV and a wood burner-effect electric fire. More formal chats can be had in the lounge with its TV and stone inglenook fireplace with a wood burner. There’s even a games room with books and board games if you’re feeling competitive. The large kitchen/diner has exposed beams and plenty of room to seat all eight guests. Adjacent to this is the handy utility room which also houses a shower room. Climb the spiral stone cottage stairs to the split-level landing and choose from two king-size rooms (one has an en-suite), a double and a twin. A bathroom services these rooms. In the morning, serve breakfast out on the raised terrace whilst the children and the dog explore the enclosed lawn.
If you love to walk or cycle, you’re in luck with Offa’s Dyke Path (10 miles) offering spectacular views. For serious hikers, the Brecon Beacons welcomes your challenge, or you can have a leisurely cruise in a kayak along the River Wye. If you want to take it even slower than this, head to the Warren, a riverside meadow and beach that kids and kids at heart will adore.
