Get back to nature in a delightful shepherd’s hut in the beautiful Forest of Dean. Perfect for couples, this welcoming rural retreat for two is finely crafted in traditional style and ideally placed to explore the network of scenic forest walking and cycle trails, along with the lovely Wye Valley. The hut is set on a working farm in Bream, where you’ll find shops, a pub and a cafe, while the market town of Coleford is just 4 miles away. Bream, a former mining village, also has its own fascinating heritage trail with wonderful views.
Wooden steps lead to French doors into the spacious timber-lined hut and a charmingly furnished interior. The hand-made wooden kitchen, painted a rich blue, has a Belfast sink, with a folding table and two comfortable armchairs. A pretty patchwork quilt covers the inviting double bed, with country views to enjoy when you wake up. A shower room completes the layout, with underfloor heating adding a cosy touch. Outside is an enclosed garden with outdoor furniture and a hot tub where you can enjoy a glorious soak after the day’s adventures.
Visit the remarkable Sculpture Trail in the heart of the forest at Beechenhurst (4.5 miles). The 4-mile trail has works by leading artists set among the ancient woodland and you can enjoy a reviving drink at the Beechenhurst cafe. Take a trip in time on the picturesque Dean Forest Railway heritage steam train (3 miles). Travelling at the gentle pace of a country branch line, it stops at five classic country stations before reaching the Severn Estuary at Lydney. For spectacular views, head to the famous beauty spot of Symonds Yat (11 miles), high above the River Wye, and the battlements of medieval Goodrich Castle (10 miles).
