This charming cottage enjoys a tranquil setting on the northern edge of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons). The two-bedroom period cottage sits within the grounds of a Grade I-listed mansion and guests are invited to take a tour of the estate between March and September, to gain a greater understanding of this magnificent house and gardens. The area is a haven for walkers, with the Black Mountains within 15 miles and waterside trails to explore along the River Usk and Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. For shopping and eating out, the bustling market town of Brecon is 5 miles away.
The cottage is set within a walled garden, at the end of a quiet lane. Inside, the holiday home has a welcoming lounge with a cosy wood burner to snuggle next to after a long walk, as you read a book or catch up on your favourite programmes on the Smart TV. Gather in the spacious kitchen/diner to rustle up delicious feasts using local ingredients, and share family mealtimes around the dining table. After dinner, retire to the garden room with a glass of wine to chat about your day. Completing the ground floor is a handy boot room with dog-washing facilities, along with a separate shower room. Upstairs, discover two tastefully decorated bedrooms, both with views across the garden. A large bathroom completes this rural retreat. Outside, dine alfresco in the enclosed walled garden, where you’ll find outdoor furniture and a BBQ. You’ll also have access to a stretch of the River Usk for wild swimming and fly fishing (guests to supply a rod licence), as well as an all-weather tennis court. Enjoy walks through the wild meadow, or take a tour of the estate in summer months. Private parking is available for two cars.
Head into the Georgian town of Brecon to browse the independent shops and dine in one of the many pubs or restaurants. Enjoy a relaxing stroll along the canal towpath, or perhaps stride out along the Taff Trail, which starts in the town. More adventurous hikers can also take on the mighty peaks of Pen y Fan or Fan Fawr, both of which are within 12 miles of the cottage. The literary town of Hay-on-Wye (22.5 miles) also makes a lovely day out, with its plethora of bookshops, cafes, boutiques, and galleries. Nearby family attractions include Cantref Adventure Farm (9 miles) and Llangorse Lake (13 miles).
