Part of a former dairy, this is the perfect holiday pad for a coastal-loving couple and their canine plus-one. Stroll to the beach, enjoy your favourite outdoor sports or explore the local countryside and castles – there’s much to enjoy close by and acres of private grounds on the doorstep.

Once a farm outbuilding, this detached property has been lovingly restored and is furnished to offer all the essentials for a blissful couple’s break. Sit back and recharge your batteries in the relaxing lounge, or share the fun of cooking for two in the modern kitchen – French doors open from the dining area onto a pretty courtyard. Upstairs, the king-size bedroom is sanctuary-like and decorated in traditional style, while the generously sized shower room is light, bright and modern.  Take a seat on your south-facing courtyard for sunshine and fresh air; the cottage sits within 4.5 acres of mature, private grounds that include wildflowers and an orchard which you are welcome to explore.

Nearby attractions include Porthcawl (2 miles), where an abundance of independent cafes, bars and shops line the esplanade and you can enjoy spectacular views across the Bristol Channel to the North Devon coast. Add an air of romance to your stay with a tour of some stunning local ruins – Candleston Castle, Ogmore Castle and Coity Castle are all within 8 miles. Closer to home, discover the Merthyr Mawr Sand Dunes where Europe’s highest single sand dune is known locally as the ’big dipper’. The countryside and coastline here is full of cycle routes. For walkers, there’s a range of footpaths including the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Footpath, and if you’re a golfer there are two fabulous courses within a couple of miles.

The cottage was a good base for exploring the local area and cooking for ourselves. Despite some noise from the main road next to the property, we felt very private with our own courtyard to enjoy the sunshine on the outdoor seating. The sofas and bed were very comfortable.

A very comfortable cottage, with a lovely area to relax in. Large grounds in which to walk our dog. A main road is next to the property but it doesnt drown out the birdsong. The owner, Howard is very friendly. There are lots of dog friendly walks nearby in the dunes, there are dog friendly pubs a short walk away.
