A pretty stone cottage in the charming seaside town of Newport offers a lovely base for exploring the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Perfect for a family or group of friends, the spacious, 19th-century property sleeps six guests. Set in a quiet residential street, it is within 0.5 miles of a sandy beach and just 200 metres from the High Street, with its range of shops, restaurants and pubs. There are wonderful walks in all directions, along the beautiful Wales Coast Path or up on the Preseli Mountains behind the town.

This welcoming holiday home has been thoughtfully renovated to retain its character and charm, with beams and sloping ceilings in some rooms. The bright and roomy kitchen/diner features a dining table overlooking a large patio. There are two cosy and comfortable living rooms. One houses a wood burner set in a stone chimney breast; the other offers a quiet retreat with a sofa bed. Upstairs, are three appealing bedrooms: a double with an en-suite, and two twins, one with sea views. Outside, the patio has garden furniture, while a gate leads to a large, steeply raised lawn, with splendid views across the rooftops to the sea.

Browse Newport’s numerous galleries, and craft and antique shops before strolling to the sea. The long expanse of golden sand at the mouth of the River Nevern is a great family beach, ideal for water sports and safe swimming. Go car-free on the Poppit Rocket bus which runs up the coast from Newport to Cardigan. You can hop and off at one of the many stops along the way. Take a spin on one of the local cycle trails or quiet country lanes. Visit the picturesque harbour of Lower Fishguard (7 miles), for a boat trip to see Pembrokeshire’s abundant coastal wildlife.

The cottage was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was fairly well equipped and plenty of instruction leaflets. Unfortunately there was not one for the gas oven which we needed as none of us was familiar with this type of oven. We reported this on the Monday and someone came to help us with this on Tuesday. The other issue we had was the unusualRead more staircase which at the half way level split giving two narrow half steps and then on one side there were another 5 normal size steps and on the other side only 3 steps which meant these were oversized and shallow. When we first arrived and not aware of this my husband missed his footing and fell. In our opinion the staircase was a bit hazardous. Hide

Ael y Bryn is a very well-equipped and most comfortable cottage in the delightful small town of Newport, Pembrokeshire. The cottage is blissfully quiet but it is within easy walking distance of the Market Street which has all essential shops, from a Spar to a pharmacy as well as a quite exceptionally high quality butcher. There are nice cafes and fRead moreriendly pubs nearby. There are marvellous walks from the house - either up the paths to the open moor of CarnIngli above the town or down the lanes to the sea and the old harbour of Parrog and then on to the Pembrokeshire Coastal path in either direction. The helpful owners live nearby and are contactable in case of any problems, but the cottage is well supplied with all essential information. We had a great Easter weekend at Aelybryn. There was plenty of room for 6 adults and a toddler. It was very warm and comfortable and well equipped . The location is super, a very short walk into the town but quiet and peaceful with only the sound of the brook. Lovely to have space to sit outside and enjoy the sun and the view of the sea. The laneRead more down from the cottage is very narrow but the owners helpfully sent directions which avoid this. Communication and support were excellent.
