Set off for a romantic, rural retreat on a working farm in the Brecon Beacons National Park with scenic walking routes, mountains and historical sites nearby. Take a bottle of bubbly out on a nighttime adventure for some star gazing in this international dark sky reserve before enjoying a home-cooked meal in front of the fire and catching some shut-eye on the four-poster bed.

This converted stable with characterful wooden beamed ceilings throughout has a cosy living room with two comfortable sofas and a wood burner. Continue into the traditional kitchen with plenty of space to prepare a meal on the dark surface tops, which you can enjoy at the dining table. Climb the stairs to reach the first floor which has a quirky narrow bathroom plus a king-size bedroom. Outside is the patio with a gravel area, furniture and a BBQ.

Wander along the walking trails from your doorstep through the countryside while you’re at this cottage in the Brecon Beacons National Park. On the grounds is access to the River Usk – so bring your fishing gear to catch some salmon and trout. Head to the nearby village of Defynnog (1 mile) for a pint at the local pub or some lunch at the Welsh Rarebit Centre. Spend some quality time with your other half on a boat along the River Usk from the market town of Brecon (8 miles), or stroll around the Ystradfellte Waterfalls (14.5 miles). If you’re up for a challenge, the tallest mountain in South Wales, Pen Y Fan, is just 10 miles away – with a peak at 886 metres.

Beautiful, comfortable cottage, superbly equipped. An extremely welcoming and friendly host who gave us a delicous freshly-made cake on arrival, free eggs and home-made marmalade. On a working farm, with lovely views of hills from all the rooms. The peace and tranquility of the area was a godsend from a noisy World. We spent a lovely week theRead morere and would definitely stay again. Hide

This cottage had everything I wanted and I was very satisfied with my stay. An added bonus for me was that it was on a working farm and I found it very interesting (I'm an industrial townie). I normally holiday with three generations of my family so I don't know when I will get the chance to return, but return I will.

Our stay at Bwthyn Blaencar Stable Cottage was really enjoyable. We were welcomed with a minimum of fuss and the written directions to get there were detailed and correct . Dont be tempted just to use the postcode for Sat Nav- once close - switch to written details! There is a parking space by the farmhouse so you can unload easily on level grounRead mored. The cottage is warm and there was plenty of hot water - so we could soak / shower after a couple of long walks! The kitchen is well equipped - we ate / cooked there the whole of our stay and it lacked nothing from our point of view. The cottage is a great base for a couple wanting to explore the Brecon Beacons - Pen y Fan and the Four Waterfalls walk were spectacular for scenery. We also visited Brecon, Crickhowell and Abergavenny. This is a working farm with livestock - so there are barns and farm vehicles around. The view from one of the bedroom windows across the hills is uplifting! It was very peaceful and we had a relaxing time here. Highly recommended! Hide
