Secluded and tranquil, this rustic stone cottage in southern Snowdonia has incredible views and is set within glorious walking country. With flexible sleeping accommodation, it’s a romantic couple’s retreat or a superb destination for three.
This handsome house is beautifully designed, blending modern comforts with original features such as stone walls and old beams. In the kitchen/diner you can conjure up holiday meals either on the oil-fired range or the electric cooker, and after supper head to either the cosy lounge, where comfortable seating is gathered around a TV and wood burner, or the reading room that’s furnished with a piano, guitar and games. On the first floor, two bedrooms – a double (one side of the bed is against the wall) plus a super-king-size (twin on request) – share a pretty bathroom. The larger room has the benefit of a Smart TV, while both rooms are furnished with cotton bedding, a wool duvet and a traditional Welsh blanket. The outside space here is superb, benefiting from spectacular views and with bench seating all around. There’s a covered area with furniture and a BBQ, and a small, enclosed bridge which leads over the adjacent stream and into the neighbouring fields.
The cottage is surrounded by farmland and mountains and is an ideal base for walkers, cyclists and climbers. The village of Dinas Mawddwy, 3 miles, has coffee shops and a pub, and there several further places to eat and drink within 12 miles, with a shop and garage in Mallwyd, 4.5 miles. For days out further afield, visit the Dyfi Wildlife Centre, 19 miles, the National White Water Centre in Bala, 21.5 miles, or Corris, 15.5 miles, which has a popular craft centre and a narrow-gauge railway, and is the starting point for adventures exploring abandoned mines by foot or by boat.
