This cosy, riverside traditional Welsh Longhouse is a perfect location for families, friends, and their pets to explore this beautiful part of the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. Set 1 mile above the pretty village of Bontddu, the property is also just 6 miles from the coastal town of Barmouth and the historic market town of Dolgellau, both with independent shops and eateries. Enjoy local walks and bike rides, or head down to a nearby sandy beach. Explore Cadair Idris, the highest mountain in southern Snowdonia, or cycle part of NCN Route 8, the Mawddach Trail, along the disused railway line. From the front door, turn right up the hill and join the Cambrian Way to ascend Diffwys Mountain, or turn left for a circular walk along the Hirgwm River, past the old gold mine.

As you enter the grounds and step out of the car, you can’t help but admire this idyllic riverside location. Enter through the porch and explore the intriguing features including an inglenook fireplace with a wood burner, exposed beams, wooden floorboards, and feature stone walls. If you decide to eat in, the kitchen is a lovely light space to get creative, with stunning views from the windows on both sides. The dining table is the perfect setting for everyone to enjoy a meal and plan your next holiday activities. After a full day out, relax in the comfortable chairs and watch the Smart TV, or bask in the heat of the wood burner. Two steps down from the kitchen, you will find the utility room, a separate WC and the stylish shower room. Go up the steep narrow stairs to the library landing to further enjoy the views of the beautiful surroundings. When you’re ready for bed, choose from two lovely bedrooms, a sumptuous double room and a cosy twin.

The cottage nestles in the large garden, sided by the upper reaches of the Hirgwm River with an adjacent summer house and a picnic bench. There is a sunny morning coffee bench at the south end of the cottage from where you can appreciate the majestic heights of Cadair Idris. Grassed areas all around the cottage on various levels allow you to follow the sun. Alternatively, enjoy more seating in the riverside games/sunroom with football table, jigsaws and games, and watch the river. A perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy al fresco dining. Experience superb local scenery and wildlife from sunrise to sunset followed by excellent stargazing - Eryri National Park is an International Dark Sky Reserve.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay despite the indifferent weather. The house was very comfortable (I loved the small study area upstairs) and the sorrounding was superb. The sound of the fast flowing stream in the garden, had such a magical feel to it! We did some of the well known walks and bike trails (Precipice Walk, Mawddach Trail) but there are plRead moreenty of walking routes right from the house itself, as one climbs up the road by the house. Hope to return again! Hide

The cottage was lovely! Perfectly located nestled in the hills away from ambient town lighting or even a whisper and yet accessible to the surrounding region. Kitchen and facilities were spot on, a welcome home away from home with many original and new features. We loved having our morning coffee next to the river! Thank you!

A great place to stay in Snowdonia. We found the constant murmur of the stream relaxing and a great place to try out the ice bath technique of athletes to recover from strenuous activity. Tynlon boasts fantastic walks from its front door. A treck uphill leads you to open country. Looking back towards the cottage, Cader Idris forms a fine back drop Read moreto the River Mawddach. Once the mountain in front of you is scaled views of Snowdon off to the North await. We found old gold mines within walking distance and sorted through a spoil heap just in case some had been missed. The coast at Barmouth is a short drive away and has a year round dog friendly section of beach to enjoy. Barmouth Co-Op is also where bought our provisions for our stay. Sitting at the southern edge of Snowdonia Tynlon is perfectly placed to explore the area on foot or after a short drive. Reviewed by Martin Hide

Ive enjoyed staying at Tyn Lon in all seasons. What I love most about it is the feeling of being in a real hill farm cottage up in the mountains whilst having good road access and all the comforts of home. All the modern facilities have been put in without changing the essential character & quite ancient feeling at the heart of the place. I love Read morebeing able to just walk out of the door and straight into the hills, in 30 mins I can be on a wild hillside with a spectacular view over the estuary and either make a short circular walk and back or carry on for the day. There are so many routes to explore, from drovers ways to forestry tracks, short woodland paths to ridge routes. I enjoy a short evening walk up through the woods by the stream and out onto the open fells to watch dusk fall over Cader in the fading light. I can sit for ages and watch the stream, either from the bank or inside from the comfort of the upstairs windows. The electric heating keeps the whole house cosy and the logburner makes a welcome warming glow to sit round in dark winter evenings. I was lucky enough to be there once in December when it snowed and had the most magical walks with beautiful views all round, without straying more than an hour from the front door. I did wonder about the road access but the local farmer popped his head over the gate & reassured me that his son would be out gritting the road first thing in the morning & Id be just fine in my little hatchback, and indeed I was. Id certainly recommend it, Ive felt very lucky to be able to stay there and i hope to make many more visits. Hide
