At a glance

  • An open-plan living space with a wood burner and beams is at the heart of this rural stone residence
  • Bedrooms and bathrooms on both floors offer flexibility for any group of up to seven guests
  • Enjoy views over the surrounding countryside to the Pembrokeshire coast – Abercastle is just 2 miles away
Property code: OC-T30243

Perfect for exploring the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, and close to Mathry, a peaceful hilltop village with wonderful views. A couple of miles away, former trading port Abercastle is a sleepy hamlet with a sheltered beach. Join the 186-mile Pembrokeshire Coast Path here, walk westwards and a short detour will take you to Carreg Samson, a Neolithic burial chamber, and then on to the gorgeous harbour at Porthgain. Beyond, volcanic sand and grey slate pebbles form Abereiddy Beach; the same slate gives a deep blue colour to the Blue Lagoon, a breached quarry just over the headland. In the opposite direction, Strumble Lighthouse sits on a tiny island reached by a small suspension bridge. One of the best places in Wales to see migrating seabirds. Mathry has a welcoming pub and village shop, but for more stores and refreshment stops, visit the busy coastal town of Fishguard, 6.5 miles north, and St David’s – Britain’s smallest city – 9.5 miles south.

Surrounded by farmland less than a mile from Mathry, this quaint cottage epitomises Welsh country living with white-painted walls, wood panelling and exposed structural beams framing rooms that are full of character. A generous hallway provides space to store coats, boots and outdoor gear. Beyond, the open-plan living space has patio doors onto the garden and is bathed in light. Enjoy sea views from the contemporary kitchen to one end, where you’ll find all the must-haves of home plus a spacious dining suite where you can recount your day’s adventures as you eat. Afterwards, load the dishwasher then relocate to the lounge area – the wood burner will add a warming glow as you stretch out to watch TV from the large L-shaped sofa. When it’s time to sleep, across the hallway there’s one double bedroom and a lovely, child-friendly room with bunk beds and a single bed. The family bathroom on the ground floor has both a bath and a separate shower, while upstairs the attic-style bedroom has a king-size bed and a chic en-suite shower room. A shared-access driveway and private parking for up to two cars announce your arrival at this lovely rural residence.

Step into the large, lawned garden for a real sense of the remote location – there’s an outdoor dining area and a selection of bench-style seating so you can enjoy the fresh country air and far-reaching views at your leisure.
