Close to both the Shropshire Hills and Offa's Dyke, this super-cute cottage is pet-friendly and surrounded by wildlife-rich countryside. Enjoy walks from the doorstep, explore the nearby market town Knighton, and unwind in an enchanting garden. Afterwards, two blissful bedrooms include a four-poster on the ground floor.

Attached to a handsome country house yet completely private, this pretty-as-a-picture cottage impresses from the outset. Pass through a five-bar gate, park and then follow the path from the garden gate to your front door; once inside, you're straight into the kitchen with all the must-haves for fuss-free self-catering. Beyond, the lounge/diner combines character and comfort. Stretch out on your choice of sofa before the Smart TV and wood burner, or take a seat at the dining suite for mealtimes with a verdant view. A door leads from this social hub into a dreamy ground-floor bedroom with an armchair and scene-stealing four-poster bed. Stairs lead off the lounge to an equally inviting first-floor double bedroom and a classically styled family bathroom. A selection of outdoor seating and a chimenea encourage you to spend time in the garden, where you can unwind with food, drinks, and a backing track of birdsong. Parking for two cars means you can stroll the local lanes at your leisure.

Just 4.5 miles away, Knighton sits astride the border between Wales and England, and is the only town on Offa's Dyke, the famous earthwork which meets another National Trail - Glyndwr's Way - here. Regular markets and medieval architecture make the town a must-see, while Clun (11.5 miles) is overlooked by spectacular castle ruins. Head 15 miles in the opposite direction to Llandrindod Wells, a Victorian spa town with much to enjoy, including a lakeside centre where you can hire bicycles, canoes and kayaks.

This is a lovely and secluded old fashioned cottage. We wanted a quiet holiday and this completely fitted the bill. The best bits are the amazingly comfortable 4 poster bed and the log burner, and the peace and quiet of course. The cottage has a large enclosed garden that our dog enjoyed exploring. Some of the boundary is natural hedges, so a deterRead moremined terrier could probably escape. There are plenty of places to explore within a 40 minute drive, it's better to plan rather than drive aimlessly because some of the best things are off the beaten track. Hide
