Tucked among the trees in Symonds Yat and right beside the River Wye, this welcoming cottage makes a lovely base for four people – plus two doggie guests. It’s a great choice for small families or groups of friends who love to spend time in the great outdoors, with walking routes leading straight from your front door and restful woodland views all around. Paddleboards and canoes are available close by for exploring the river at your own pace. If you’re keen for more walking and cycling trails, the majestic Forest of Dean is just 6 miles away.
This homely cottage has a warm and traditional feel to it, with wooden furniture, a light colour scheme and country-style fabrics. On arrival, leave boots in the entrance lobby and settle into the inviting lounge, where plump sofas await for film nights on the Smart TV. French doors open to a bright kitchen/diner, with plenty of space to cook and gather for mealtimes – either around the dining table, at the breakfast bar or in the enclosed courtyard garden. Head upstairs to find two calm and cosy bedrooms – one king-size and one double – along with a family bathroom. As well as the courtyard garden at the back, you’ll have a communal garden at the front with shared benches and river access. The property has private parking for two cars.
You’ll discover plenty nearby – one must-see experience is walking to the local foot ferry and crossing to Symonds Yat Rock for jaw-dropping views across the valley. The historic suspension bridge at Biblins (2 miles) is fun to walk over and has lovely vistas along the river and the surrounding woodland. Families are well catered for too, with Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo, Puzzlewood, Go Ape and outdoor activity centres all within 10 miles.
