Surrounded by wildlife-rich walking country, this 19th-century cottage sits on the edge of the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley. Pet friendly, it features a choice of social spaces plus a bathroom for each of its four bedrooms – one of which is on the ground floor.
Pop your outdoor gear in the porch, then head straight into the original living room where a period fireplace, sofa and armchairs offer a traditional welcome. The first of the four bedrooms – a double with exposed beams and an ornamental fireplace – is off this room. The first social hub for your holiday is an open-plan living space with a contemporary kitchen, stunning dining suite and a lounge with a large L-shaped sofa, a wood burner and a TV. A small study/work space plus a utility area, WC and shower room complete the ground-floor layout. Upstairs, a large picture window frames incredible views from another lounge area – play table football, watch TV or use the telescope for wildlife-spotting and stargazing. Three bedrooms are close – choose between a king-size, a double and a twin. Ensuring convenience for all, two of the bedrooms have en-suites, while the other can claim exclusive use of the family bathroom. Step outside for a breath of fresh country air and far-reaching views – the patio comes complete with a BBQ and a fire pit, and beyond, there’s a tree-lined lawn, that while not completely enclosed, is a child- and pet-friendly space (under supervision as necessary).
Private parking allows you to unpack and explore at your own pace – the property sits half a mile from St Briavels, a vibrant village dominated by a castle and home to a friendly pub and deli, while the community shop and cafe in Brockweir (3 miles) stocks further supplies. Walkers can follow a wide choice of trails, including Offa’s Dyke, the Wye Valley Walk, Gloucestershire Way and Wysis Way. Visit the iconic viewpoint at Symonds Yat Rock (13 miles) or take a stroll around the romantic ruins of Tintern Abbey (5 miles). Less than 9 miles away, Monmouth is known for its 13th-century gatehouse bridge.
