  • A renovated 17th-century stone barn
  • Enjoy country walks right from the door
Property code: OC-BN125

This stunning stone barn sits in an elevated position overlooking the Usk Valley. Sleeping four guests, the property makes an excellent couples’ retreat or base for a small family. You’ll have endless walks from your front door, through the dramatic Black Mountains. The pretty village of Crickhowell (3.5 miles) offers independent shops and eateries, and you’ll also be within 12 miles of the vibrant market towns of Brecon and Abergavenny.

The 17th-century converted barn forms part of a small complex of holiday homes on a working livestock farm. The property has a contemporary interior, whilst retaining original features such as exposed oak beams. At the heart of the home is a spacious lounge, with plush leather seating to recline on and a roaring wood burner to create a cosy atmosphere. A bright kitchen/diner has everything you need to rustle up tasty dishes, and there’s also a beautiful oak dining table for sharing mealtimes together. The two elegant bedrooms are upstairs, both of which have en-suite shower rooms and glorious rural views. The property has underfloor heating throughout the ground floor, ensuring a warm welcome whatever the season. Outside, bask in the Welsh sunshine on the gravel terrace and admire the far-reaching views, whilst sipping a glass of wine or enjoying a family BBQ.

Set off on foot from the property to join the long-distance Beacon’s Way through the spectacular surrounding landscape, or perhaps head to Tretower Court and Castle (1 mile) to unearth 900 years of history. Highlights here include a great hall that is laid out as it would have been in the 1400s and a recreated 15th-century garden. The bustling town of Abergavenny is a must for foodies, with its wonderful array of pubs, cafes, and restaurants, along with regular markets selling delicious local produce.

  • 2 king-size bedrooms – 1 with king-size zip and link that can become a twin (on request prior to arrival)

If you're looking for a comfortable, clean and well equipped cottage in the most idyllic setting, then this is for you. The most amazing views high in the hills with absolutely no restrictions to walk the land (always observing the Country Code). One of the best areas we've stayed. We'll certainly return to this cottage should we holiday in the Read morearea again. Yes, we had the best weather ever but we loved the cottage, too. Hide

Dear Holiday Cottages WE have just returned from Cynfin House in Crickhowell I feel we had to write to say the accommodation was very disappointing to the extent where some parts were dangerous. I do understand some of the issues are out of your control. We could no contact you during the holiday as you will read later. The general conditRead moreion of the place was in poor condition and very un-cared for. The outside was neglected the entrance drive was very uneven and the side garden area was totally over grown there were weeds in the patio area, The edging stones to the outside raised land were loose and dangerous and a child could fall. The house windows cant have been cleaned for a few years spoil a nice view all very dirty and covered in cobwebs. The kitchen was poorly equipped and well worn. to the extent where we had to buy kitchen wear, There was no information anywhere with regarding any thing in or relating to the property ie heating controls. Medical emergence etc There was no information in relation to attraction or restaurants in the area One of the external doors had a 18 split in it letting in the cold The bedroom windows did not seal when closed and rattled and allowed the wind in. The Microwave oven lining was pealing and rusting, None of the upstairs sinks held water due to the sink plugs having no seals Main bedroom shower screen was broken at the bottom. The reclining arm chair in the lounge was broken and wobbled. Plaster missing off the wall in lounge. The outside seating was covered in old bird excrement I ask the owner before we arrived if the digital tv and wifi phone signal worked well, The owner confirmed they were all good. On arrival we found both remotes had flat batteries (we bought some) but then found the Wi-Fi was VERY poor 0.1MPS at times. So none of the digital channels on the TV worked (ie Netflix/ iPlayer ITVX etc) WE also found the analogue TV channels were breaking up all the time due to very poor signal strength, BCC1 and 2 had no sound as with many other channels. Our computers were also hardly workable as were our phones owing to lack of signal and wifi As I said I check all this with the owner who said all was in full working order and good to go. These issues should be made clear in the properties advertising literature. We did not bother contacting the owner after economical truths relating to the TV Phones and WiFi We left the property 2 days early Very disappointed Mr & Mrs Kent Hide

An absolutely lovely cottage, situated on beautiful farmland with stunning views. The underfloor heating was a real treat on a cold morning. Very comfortable, spotlessly clean and I would highly recommend.

Comfortable, relatively spacious and well equipped. Off the beaten track but lovely location with beautiful views over the Usk Valley. The farm track to the cottage is scenic, but as noted in the "need to know" section, low slung cars may struggle as the last couple of hundred meters are pretty rough (our estate car was fine). A good base for exploRead morering the Brecon Beacons and surrounding areas. Hide

Lovely location. Great for afternoon and evening sunshine. Property a little tired and info sheet could be updated.. still had details referring to Covid. We had an issue with acrid smoke coming from an external wood fired boiler. This was resolved by owners quickly by switching to the oil based heating system for the property, thank you.
